Julia confronts Dean Fogg about his deal with the Library. They saved magic, and he saved their lives, but the entire world is compromised. Magic is back -- sorta.

Alice is still trapped in the Library prison. Dean Fogg drops by to remind her about the Library's books on each person. And how they can read the endings and know what people are up to and where they are. So if she is still planning that escape with Santa … or her friends need help... maybe get those books?

Marina explains more about what's going on to the group. She's getting paid to find them by the McAllistairs. There's a bounty on them of three "Deweys" -- the Library's new magical currency. She makes a deal with them for five Deweys to leave them alone and not turn them in.

Evil Eliot whisks Margo and Josh to Fillory so that they can kill Bacchus on his revenge tour. Evil Eliot wants Josh to kill Bacchus or he'll kill Josh. Margo gives Josh the ambrosia to slip into Bacchus' drink. Then she tries to lure the real Eliot out, but no go.

Julia reunites with the gang at Marina's apartment. They need to come up with a plan to get Dewey's and Penny suggests his counterfeiter friend Frankie, who always has amazing luck.

To get a Dewey, Quentin has to do some awesome magical poker moves in a high stakes game of Push. A bit seedy, kinda complex, and a snowfall later Quentin comes out ahead. Then they just need to sneak a magical black card off of someone and make a copy.

The catch? While they are #blessed with good luck during their caper, Quentin has to hold the bad luck bear for bad luck. He gets a papercut from a paper towel, is attacked by a snake, and a light fixture crashes from the ceiling, nearly killing him It's a lot.

When the hijinks are over, Frankie advises the group to destroy the fake card and the teddy bear ASAP. Kady says she'll take care of it. She then does a spell on the bear and pockets the counterfeit black card.

In Fillory, Josh does not want to drug up Bacchus. He considers him a friend and bails on giving him the ambrosia OD. But Margo counters his hesitation with a LOT of threats, and he is forced to do it.

Alice and Santa are working on their escape from Library prison. She's found a fireplace and they are going to grab their books and get out. But her book -- and the rest of the crew -- are "out of circulation."

Alice tells Santa to go on without her and that she will, stay back and find her friends' books. So putting a finger aside of his nose, Santa thanks Alice and up the chimney he goes. Then she's grabbed from behind by a mystery person.

Evil Eliot confronts Bacchus. He wants to know what he took from him, and how he can get it back. Bacchus says he can never get it back, and Evil Eliot cuts into him, removing something that looks like a heart. Josh and Margo hide within the nearby bushes and watch the horror unfold.

Kady and Penny pay off Marina. She walks away and someone sidles up behind her.

Counterfeit black card in hand, Kady concocts some new schemes. Somehow Marina's apartment is now hers, and -- lucky Kady -- she's given an adorable puppy. She calls the rest of the gang to the place so they can do cloaking spells with the magic they stole in order to hide from the McAllistairs.

Quentin is not feeling great about things. He's worried about his dad's cancer. They brought magic back, but at a huge cost. And is it really back, with the Library rationing system? They sacrified so much. Was it worth it?
