The future ain't what it used to be in new trailer for Star Trek: Discovery Season 3
Welcome to the future. Well, yes, Star Trek has always been about the future. But the new season of Star Trek: Discovery has the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery boldly go where no entry in the franchise has gone before: to a far-flung future in which the Federation no longer exists.
At the Star Trek: Discovery panel during CBS All Access’ Star Trek Day, series star Sonequa Martin-Green unveiled to fans the official trailer for the show’s upcoming third season, as well as a new poster and new logo.
In the third season of Star Trek: Discovery, the crew of the intrepid Federation starship has gone 930 years into their future. To the year 3188, to be exact. And it's apparently a future where the United Federation of Planets has all but collapsed after “the burn,” or “the day the galaxy took a hard left.”
After Martin-Green's Commander Michael Burnham took the U.S.S. Discovery into a wormhole at the end of Star Trek: Discovery’s second season, the crew finds itself in an unknown future in Season 3. But all is not lost. As Saru (Doug Jones) points out, they are completely disconnected, but they are also together. And Sonequa Burnham says: "The Federation isn't just about ships. The Federation is its people."
But, of course, as unfamiliar as the crew’s new environs are, they’re still the same lovably dysfunctional bunch we’ve all known since the series’ debut season. Check out the new trailer and poster below.
Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery premieres Thursday, Oct. 15, on CBS All Access. A new episode of the series’ 13-episode third season will be available on demand every Thursday.
