Warning: If you don't want to know what happened in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
The year is 2020 in what appears to be a military hospital. A younger Katarina Jones sits at the deathbed of her daughter, Hannah, when Cassie appears and shoots Katarina in the head… Wait, WHAT?!
201013
So, remember when Katarina said she’d find a way to fix everything? Apparently that fix involves sending Cassie back to 2020 to take her out before she can invent time travel. Cole decides he needs to go back to 2020 too and stop this from happening.
201014
Cassie arrives in 2020 at the military hospital, which is under the command of Jonathan Foster (‘member him?). When Katarina’s daughter dies, Cassie is able to slip away from Foster, find the mourning Katarina and shoot her. Mission accomplished.
201015
But wait, if Cassie did take out Katarina, then what is Cole doing there? If the inventor of time travel was eliminated, they should BOTH be gone. What’s going on?!
201016
So this is weird. Everything is the same as yesterday. Cassie is talking to people she’s already talked to and they don't remember her, Katarina’s daughter is still alive, even Katarina is alive. With Cole by her side, they get sent to secure lock up where they find Jennifer Goines, who tells them they are stuck in a loop. Time itself needs something from them.
201017
Soon, Foster wants to put Cassie and Cole to death for impersonating, well, themselves. See, in 2020 in this timeline, Cassie is dead and Cole is 11, so they must be up to no good. After a skirmish, Cassie is injured so Cole kills Katarina to hopefully reboot the day.
201018
Round 3: Cass and Cole split up. While Cole talks to Jennifer about why time keeps resetting. Jennifer theorizes that maybe time doesn’t want to stop the invention of time travel. Meanwhile, a determined Cassie carries out her original mission, but this time notices something peculiar about Hannah’s ailment.
201019
Round 4: Cassie decides that maybe saving Hannah will stop the loop. What she noticed in round 3 is that Hannah is immune to the virus and it’s actually meningitis that’s killing her! However, just as Cassie starts saving Hannah, time reboots. Jennifer points out, “Time likes Jones just the way she is.”
201020
Round 5: Cassie and Cole decide to sit back and do nothing today and end up sharing some fireside feels. This plan goes bust when time reboots anyway and they start coughing up blood. Oh yah, did we mention all this rebooting is kinda killing them?
201021
Round 6: Cole thinks he knows how to fix this after a little prodding from Jennifer, but wants to get the ok from Katarina first. He asks her, “Is a little bit of happiness better than a lifetime of anything else?” And THEN they get shot by a firing squad rebooting the day… What’s he got up his sleeve?
201022
Next thing we know, Cassie and Cole are splintering back to 2044?! What? How? Just as vexed by this is Katarina who doesn’t believe for a second that Time itself was on their side and needed her to invent time travel.
201023
Cass and Cole take Katarina to see Jennifer, where they explain what they did in 2020. They DID save Hannah, but made Kat think that she was dead (after all, they needed Jones to invent time travel to break the time loop). They sent Kat off to be raised by The Daughters, which means…
201026
Hannah is now alive in 2044! So. Many. Feelings.
201027
Speaking of feels, Cole tells Cassie that she is the only thing that matters to him in this crazy world. But Cassie can’t reciprocate, there’s still too much battle ahead to fall in love. (Excuse us while we sob for a minute.)
201030
Uh oh. Ramse is back. With a gun! And he blames Cassie for Sam’s disappearance. Cassie convinces him though that she can help him track down and kill the person who is really to blame for all their suffering: The Witness.
