Warning: If you don't want to know what happened in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
It’s 1959, in an army barracks. Just a group of army dudes sitting around playing cards until… Where’d they go? They just disappeared! But why?
200869
And then in 2044, Katarina and Dr. Ecklund are SUPER cozy, despite how much she didn’t remember him just a few weeks ago. But then the moment is ruined when Cassie comes back from 2016 with news of her run-in with The Witness.
200870
The gang has a hard time believing that Cassie actually sat down and had a heart-to-heart with The Witness but Cassie assures everyone it was not a hallucination. Theories are thrown out, but nobody is really sure.
200871
Later that night, Cassie follows some strange voices (so much for not hallucinating) to the time machine where… Holy Crap! It’s The Witness! Maybe she isn’t hallucinating after all!
200872
Katarina tells her fellow doctors to look to see if there was any other temporal radiation with Cassie. Could another traveler have been with her when she came back to 2044? When the lab folks find a phantom tether, there’s proof. A new traveler (The Witness?) is here with them 2044.
200873
Before they can figure out what that means though, the time machine starts going completely off the rails. All the safety measures are failing. The splinter machine is gonna blow.
200874
Not only is this thing going to kill them all, but some of Katarina’s original time travel test subjects are back and they are FURIOUS. Luckily Cole shows up to take one out before it kills Katarina. Phew!
200875
Realizing the time machine has been sabotaged (by The Witness?) -- the team splits up. Cassie and Cole head to shut down the core (the power source) manually but happen upon another of Katarina’s test subjects. While Cole goes to take care of it, Cass disappears. Uh oh.
200876
Ramse and his son Sam are still trying to find the others when a vicious time-traveling guard dog attacks them. While Ramse deals with it… Sam is lead away by a shadowy figure.
200877
As Cole and Cass are sent to shut down the core, Deacon and Eckland head off to find a replacement lens that will direct the temporal rays that are now bursting out of the machine. They find it, but then run into those army guys who disappeared from 1959, who are crazy confused as to where/when they are now. There’s a quick shoot-out but team 2044 escapes.
200878
What’s this? Why is Cassie holding a gun to Sam? Turns out, that phantom tether we found earlier is inside of Cassie! She’s being controlled by something else (The Witness?) and she does not want them to fix the core. Sam directs Ramse and Cole to another way into the room by pointing to the floor which leads another entrance.
200879
Back with Jones and Eckland, It’s too late. The machine is past the point where they can safely install the new lens without being exposed to massive levels of radiation! Before Katarina can devise any kind of plan, Eckland goes into the room and fixes it in order to save her life, in the name of love. And just like that -- he’s gone.
200880
So Ramse and Cole are in the room with Cass and Sam, but Cass is definitely under The Witness’ control so there’s no reasoning with her. But Cole is sure that she’s still in there somewhere so his plan is to have Ramse shoot him, knowing that if Cass is still in there, she won’t let Cole die. The plan works and Cass is set free.
200881
Unfortunately the core had already reached critical levels of temporal radiation and lets out one final burst which hits Sam, splintering him to God knows where. Ramse leaves the gang and Katarina swears to find a solution.
200882
But we aren't done yet... Cut to the year… Well, we aren't sure, but look- Sam is alive! But who is the person reaching out their hand to him?
