While retrieving an artifact from the stacks, Artie knocked into Mozart's clock, which they discover is missing a piece. In order to stop Artie's personal symphony performance, they'll have to snag and bag the missing bust before the clock claims Artie's hearing.

Myka and Pete learn that, after the breakout, one convict stole the artifact, a Pompeiian jug, from the other and took off in search of his son. The teenage boy's mom tells them the man, Barton, went to a garage where his old gang is inducting his son into the group. Barton wants to save his son from a life in a gang, and he'll use lava to do it, if he has to.

Barton stops the initiation, but when Liam and Jinks arrive and lay down the law, bullets fly and the jug is dropped, pouring a nonstop river of lava to engulf all who aren't fast enough to get out of its way. Liam and Jinks climb on top of a car and wait it out, and Barton and his son climb a ladder above the burning flow.

Pete and Myka arrive and see a way to hopscotch across cars to the jug. Jumping from one melting, floating car to another, they grab the artifact, close it, and bag it. The hot lava turns instantly cool, and everyone is safe. Barton must return to jail, but his son is no longer in danger of becoming a gangster and has a newfound love for his dear ol' dad.

Artie and Claudia have found the missing piece of the artifact - it's under the care of a physically big, mentally tiny man who tries to abscond with it. Claudia trips the doofus as he runs, and Artie, now deaf, finishes him off with a knockout punch. They bag the artifact, and Artie's hearing returns! If only they had had goo in Mozart's time...
