Episode Recap: All Apologies

So, Hansen is in hot water with the Oracle and Michaela for having allowed his daughters to escape. They try to torture their whereabouts out of him, but he’s staying shtum. Meanwhile, Ivory and Jack team up to return to the lair to save Hansen, while Violet, Axel and Julius hit the road to find… the great beyond. 

After driving a while, the three desperadoes come upon a US Army base, with real live American soldiers. They want in. And at Fort Collins, a Colonel Nicholson with that same US Army has been dispatched to perform some reconnaissance and ask Avery some questions about the whereabouts of Violet and Jack. The colonel gets called away by the Chief of Staff — so it’s pretty serious stuff. Oh, and it wasn’t Avery: it was the Oracle appearing as Avery. 

When Ivory and Jack arrive at the lair, they stealthily intervene in a ritual in which the sisterhood take out Michaela’s heart and put it in a box — presumably to protect her from being staked in the future. They bust in, crossbow and sword a blazing, and start dispatching the vampires — Jack by biting, Ivory by whooping behind. Michaela gets Ivory in her grasp, but Jack manages to stake Michaela’s heart before she can strike the final blow. Jack turns the rest of the sisters back to their normal selves, and they fall in rank and file to back the Van Helsing cause.   

Axel makes it past the military checkpoint with a van full of stinky, decomposing, rotting flesh, and of course the wanted Julius and Violet. Violet wants to get back to Black-Tec, so Julius stages his own surrender to act as a diversion. He rushes at the officers, gets shot, goes down. The colonel is pissed and takes in Axel for questioning. Violet breaks into her dad’s old office to get the torn-out pages. Through some digging, the Colonel knows Axel knows Violet, Jack, and Julius, and he presses him for answers. So, Axel tells him to pull up a chair. 

Julius respawns and breaks out of the morgue and into an office, where he finds a very valuable file on the Sunshine Unit. Violet ends up finding her father, tied to a chair. Only Hansen doesn’t look like the daddy we’ve come to know and love-hate, but a distorted version of his younger self at the age when he was bitten, albeit very pallid and sickly looking. A lot of that has to do with the torture. But it’s mostly that Hansen is too weak to keep up the illusion of a silver-haired fox. Violet unties her father and readies his escape. 

Axel manages to pull a gun on the colonel just as Julius busts in, and they take Nicholson hostage. Walk and talk, gentlemen. In the hallway, they run in to Violet and Hansen, and they all regroup. Jack and the sisters are able to sneak past the checkpoint to link up with the rest of the cadre. And the Oracle, who’s slowly but surely losing all her allies, is going a bit daft in the head. Is there a method to her madness? We’ll have to see.
