Now that Julius is human again, we're learning a lot more about his backstory. For example, back when the world was black and white, his mom was dying and he fixed fights for money but those people are notoriously untrustworthy so he ended up falling in with Dimitri and turning his mother into a vampire. She promptly kills a nun.

Present day Julius is actually a really nice guy who wants to atone for all his sins. He's also really useful thanks to all his vampire knowledge and let's Vanessa know that Dylan needs to feed basically always because baby vampires are a lot like baby humans, only Dylan can walk and ocassionally speak in full sentences. He offers himself up as a snack.

Mohamad is remarkably still alive, though that could easily change at any moment. Flesh and Lucky brought him to Triage but Doc isn't there and neither are any antibiotics, which really sucks cause his wounds are infected.

You know what else sucks? Because Doc took all the blood they've made donations mandatory. If you don't give, you don't eat, and Flesh used to be a vampire and he's really not in the giving mood.

Even though Julius is a willing snack for Dylan, that doesn't mean Dylan wants to eat. Apparently, cured blood tastes really gross and maybe is toxic? Unclear. What is clear is that Dylan needs fresh human blood or she dies. Awesome.

Meanwhile, Doc and Axel are having the most fun on a road trip since Thelma and Louise drove off that cliff. Axel is still not willing to feed off Doc which means he's suffering. Vampire Axel is a jerk.

In another part of the Pacific Northwest, there's apparently some kind of vampire apocalypse Lord of the Flies situation going down at an old jail. They're debating how to punish a kid who failed to kill a feral. They seem fun.

Then again, karma is a bitch because Sam is back and he immediately starts attacking these kids (who are heavily armed). They shoot him a whole bunch but he's not dead at all and starts killing indiscriminately.

Eventually, Sam finds the kid who was being punished before and instead of killing him he just sort of sits there with his hand on the kid's chest. I think maybe he's bonding to him as a substitute for Mohamad, which is itself another level of creepy.

With no choices left, Vanessa tries her hand at catching some fresh blood for her daughter. She kidnaps a guy off the road intending just to bleed him a little bit, but he pulls a gun and shoots Dylan, so yeah, he dies. And it turns out he had kids in the car. Oops.

Sam is still keeping his pet, who is definitely a Mohamad replacement. Sam pins the kid to the ground, cuts a hole in his own finger and traces the Nirvana logo on the kid's t-shirt to make it more authentic. How many times can we call Sam creepy before it ceases to have any meaning?

Vanessa is dealing with the ramifications of her actions, and Julius, back again, is suddenly her conscience. Who knew a vampire could have a moral high ground? He tells her she doesn't want to become the monster he was. She tells him she promised to do anything for Dylan. He leaves to take the man's kids somewhere safe while Vanessa looks like someone who just murdered a dude for her daughter.

Back at Triage, after Lucky calls Flesh out for not donating blood, he tells her the truth about his vampy past. It goes about as well as you can expect and he ends up locked up. Lucky actually feels bad, since she didn't intend for this to happen. She thinks they're just gonna run some tests. He's pretty sure he's gonna die.

Not-Mohamad, whose name is apparently Felix, is very good at not dying by just doing whatever the crazy vampire tells him to. This includes feeding Sam some of his friends and helping with the stabbing.

Apparently an entire adult male isn't enough blood for Dylan to heal from a gunshot wound, so instead of killing more people, Vanessa decides to try to turn her back to a human. There are a whole lot of tears cause this is probably gonna go very badly.

Surprisingly it goes … totally fine? Dylan almost dies and then coughs up a bunch of blood and is a perfectly normal little girl again. So, where's the other shoe and how long until it drops?

Lucky breaks Flesh out of his tiny prison. Flesh won't leave without Mohamad. They also break Mohamad out because it's always a great idea to travel with a man who is half dead and probably still bleeding.

Oh look, it's the other shoe. Dylan isn't a vampire anymore, but she's still got vampire weaknesses. Like sunlight. Trapped in an open field covered in snow, Dylan burns up, turns to ash, and disintegrates. Vanessa's blood curdling scream can apparently be heard (and felt) for miles around.

And one of the people who hears it is a very, very old vampire. He was asleep, but now? Not so much.
