Axel is on his own this week, and it seems like a nice reprieve from the horrors of, well, everything. He makes a beeline for the meeting place he and Scarlett agreed upon which it turns out is his old hometown and the garage that his family seems to have owned before everything went vampire.

It’s a good place to hole up except for the fact that it doesn’t have any food, since no one has been there in probably years. As Axel heads out to find some, he is haunted by painful memories from his past, of a sister who went missing when they were kids.

He runs into another group attempting to do the same as him, and they’re being attacked by Daywalkers, and, as is his wont, assists the group of survivors in, you know, surviving. He heads back with them to their home base, where he is introduced to the group, including a lovely young woman named Kelly, and an old man named Lorne.

Lorne, as it turns out, is an old friend of Axel’s, his former boss from the local feed store. Unfortunately, old age and a vampire apocalypse haven’t been kind to Lorne and he quickly forgets nearly everything. Axel leaves the past in the past but also learns that Lorne’s dementia makes it difficult for him to feel like he isn’t in charge of things.

In the meantime, Axel discovers that Kelly has a totally different interest in him. This is the apocalypse, after all, and no one likes being alone. Axel graciously demures, though, because unlike Kelly, he has someone he’s waiting for.

Off in the woods, Sam has returned to the Johnson’s camp to search for Mohamad. Finding that his friend has escaped, he turns his attention to one of the Johnsons patriarchs, and the two engage in a debate over love and loss.

Sam believes that love is the greatest torture of all and that, while he can in fact love, he does not want to because of it’s potential to injure. He then goes on to prove his point by murdering the man in front of his partner, before learning that Mohamad has joined Vanessa on her own journey.

The next morning, Axel and the others set out to finish the raid where they left off, this time armed with more sirens and air horns to separate and disorient the Daywalkers. It works, at least for a time, and the group manages to take out the majority of the pack before Lorne shows up, confused and guns blazing.

Lorne’s arrival throws everything off, and results in Kelly’s death. But it’s the other woman who seems to be the most affected by the experience as she stands in shocked silence, staring at her friend as Lorne beckons them all to follow him into the store’s basement.

Back at HQ, Axel discovers the truth. Carter AKA Polly is actually his long lost sister who was taken from the playground by Lorne so many years ago. Axel is angry, but she begs him not to take out his rage on the old man, because it is the anger that she fears, not what happened to her.

Polly was shot during the raid and dies in Axel's arms and Axel does not take her pleas to heart. He immediately hunts down Lorne and beats him up before shooting him several times in the chest.
