In Fillory, Quentin is drinking his sorrows over Alice's death, and Margo, having none of it, sends him to Earth on an errand for Eliot's wedding to King Idri.

Meanwhile, Kady still has to deal with Reynard and Penny wants to help her, but his job with the Order seems to have just started. He and Kady end up back in front of the Librarian, who's got some tasks for him.

Quentin's task is to go collect Josh, who has been making edibles. Magical drug edibles. Quentin arrives to fetch him to cater Eliot's wedding, but instead...

Quentin goes on a drug trip to another world and bumps into Julia's shade who asks that he come find her before it's too late. Except Quentin has no idea where he is.

Uhm, and Fen is starting to see Fairy warriors all the time. She thinks they're a hallucination, but remember how Margo promised her child to them? Yep. They're probably not hallucinations. Because Margo is seeing them, too.

The search for Julia's shade continues and Todd (ugh, Todd, right?) tells Julia and Quentin that Dean Fogg knows a person who was very interested in shades. During one of the 39 timeloops, apparently ALICE was very into seeking them out.

The first book that Penny has to collect is from the owner of FuzzBeat - a website with cat videos and news. Those articles also turn out to be coded news for magicians. She shares some info with Kady - no matter what, the library has ALL kinds of knowledge. So...that librarian was lying.

In the royal kitchens, Josh finds a note that there's going to be an attempt on Eliot's life during the wedding. He's furious and the gang decide to defeat the Foo Fighters with a tracking spell. The plan is that Josh is going to sneak an Eliot-likability potion into the Foo Fighters' dinner.

So then this: turns out that overdue book was cursed so that the librarian would open what's called the Poison Room, where the library keeps all of the knowledge that's too dangerous to read. In order to avoid that, that librarian chose to KILL himself. So, it's big stuff in there.

Margo tries to change the terms of her deal with the Fairies, but instead has to come clean to Fen about having to give up the baby. Margo's on it, she thinks she can stop it, but can she?

Meanwhile, Julia and Dean Fogg pull out the old Tesla Flexion device, and cast a spell so that Quentin can talk to a version of Alice from another timeloop.

This timeloop version of Alice was in rough shape, and the feelings were all OVER the place. She tells Quentin that shades go to the Underworld, but in order to get there, he needs to find "an ancient one."

Fen, trying to get Eliot to help her with the baby problem, is abducted by that CREEPY Fairy dude.

Kady gets a quick note from FuzzBeat telling her that the book she's looking for is in the Poison Room.
