Alien invasion averted as UFO above New Jersey turns out to just be Goodyear Blimp
Is New Jersey facing another alien invasion?
Eighty-two years since Orson Welles' infamous War of the Worlds fake radio broadcast sparked panic (some say "mass hysteria") among the state's residents, videos of a purported UFO hovering in the New Jersey sky yesterday went viral on social media, prompting renewed chatter that E.T. had finally arrived.
But as it turns out, such speculation was once again a bunch of hot air, courtesy of the Goodyear Blimp perched above MetLife Stadium for Monday Night Football. The iconic airship had some astonished observers apparently convinced they were seeing an unidentified flying object.
Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long before videos found their way online showing people standing on freeways gazing up in disbelief at what we'll grant kinda sorta seems like a slow moving flying saucer, but in reality was just a good ol' ad for Goodyear and fake news.
Needless to say, the UFO-curious had their bubble burst by some myth-busting Netizens.
To be fair, the UFO/Blimp confusion did occur on the same day The New York Times reported that astronomers may well have detected evidence of life in the atmosphere of Earth's sister planet, Venus. So ya never know!
