'The Boys' are back in town in first full trailer for Amazon series' second season

By Jacob Oller
The Boys Season 2

The Boys, the Amazon adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's superhero comic, isn't known for being shy. If there are F-bombs to drop, heads to explode, or sex scenes to ruin...The Boys will be there like angst on Batman. Now that the villainous supes and those out to stop them are heading back for a second season, fans will get to see how Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and team is going to deal with an increasingly unhinged Homelander (Antony Starr).

The season's first teased footage showed the Superman parody spattered with blood and also hanging out with the super-son he fathered with Butcher's wife Rebecca (Shantel VanSanten). The rest of the gang — A-Train (Jessie Usher), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), The Deep (Chace Crawford) — be they on the side of good or superpowered, is coming back in full force.

Season 2 is only getting nastier as The Boys doubles down on what set it apart in the first place.

Take a look:

There's a manhunt underway for Billy Butcher and the gang — which means it's time to lay low before fighting back against Vought and its roster of enhanced super-crooks. Heads are smashed, kids are dropped off roofs, and everyone's getting covered in gore - all to an '80s score. Basically, the new poster should tell fans all they need to know about how things are starting out:

Urban explained at this year's C2E2 panel that the season would confront Homelander as "America's favorite rapist" while also introducing the fan-favorite Terror, Butcher's bulldog. The season is also fleshing out the cast with returning guest stars Giancarlo Esposito (as Vought head honcho Mr. Edgar) and Colby Minifie (as Starlight's fired publicist Ashley Barrett), as well as exciting new faces like Goran Visnjic, Claudia Doumit, Patton Oswalt, and Aya Cash, who will be playing Stormfront.

The Boys returns to Amazon on Sept. 4.
