The Suicide Squad clears up the entire roster's characters with first footage at DC FanDome
The Suicide Squad has been one of filmmaker James Gunn's best-kept secrets as it's gone through its entire production without letting slip the plot or even which characters most cast members are playing. But secrets were revealed at the film's DC FanDome panel, which kicked off with a first trailer for the film ahead of Gunn and cast's discussion.
Fans can finally start to piece together what exactly this movie is going to be about - or at least what it's going to be LIKE - and how it'll relate to David Ayer's 2016 Suicide Squad. DC is already bringing multiple Batmen into a multiverse movie, after all, so a little weirdness between the films is to be expected. But let's talk footage. Actually, maybe the first character-explaining teaser should speak for itself first.
Check it out:
The massive all-star cast includes returning cast members Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney reprising their characters while Idris Elba, John Cena, David Dastmalchian, Flula Borg, Storm Reid, Mayling Ng, Daniela Melchior, Nathan Fillion, Peter Capaldi, Taika Waititi, Pete Davidson, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, and Michael Rooker all lend their chops to the giant new roster. And we finally found out who everyone is!
Robbie, Davis, Kinnaman, and Courtney are all playing their old characters but there's a whole lotta newness coming fans' ways: Rooker is playing Savant, Borg is playing Javelin, Dastmalchian is Polka-Dot Man, Melchior is Ratcatcher 2, Elba is Bloodsport, Ng is Mongal, Capaldi is Thinker, Braga is Sol Soria, Davidson is Blackguard, Fillion as T.D.K., Cena as Peacemaker, and Sean Gunn as Weasel. Also King Shark is...there. (Played on set by Agee according to Gunn.) Some didn't even make the video cut, like Tinashe Kajese's Flo Crawley:
Awesome. The Suicide Squad looks to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
