Star Wars Weekly: Video game trailers galore and Celebration merch for sale
Time again for STAR WARS WEEKLY, the SYFY WIRE series that rounds up the most important news of the week from a galaxy far, far away.
Think of us as your own personal Star Wars Holocron.
VIDEO GAMES GALORE
Yesterday was the unveiling of a whole slew of Star Wars video game content. In addition to new looks at projects that had already been announced, we got our first announcement of a project that I can’t believe actually happened. Sims 4 is getting a Star Wars expansion set on Batuu. And if the sounds in the trailer are to be believed, it seems like they even brought back the original voice actors to record patented Sims gibberish. Interestingly enough, the expansion has a story, too, that will give you a better window into what’s going on at Galaxy’s Edge.
Here’s a trailer:
The next trailer to drop was the LEGO Star Wars game that encompasses the complete Skywalker Saga. These games have been staples for a long time. They are notable in that they include a lot of humor and tongue in cheek looks at the tragedies of the Skywalkers over the years. This new edition is no exception.
Watch that trailer here:
The last big trailer drop yesterday was a look at the single-player story in Star Wars: Squadrons. It gave us a glimpse of General Hera Syndulla and Grand Admiral Rae Sloane. Since Sloane took off to the Unknown Regions after the battle of Jakku, it seems like we might getting a lot of story action between the battle of Endor and Jakku. Unless Sloane is back, post-Jakku. In either case, fans are thirsty for both characters, and seeing them in a video game bodes well for the story.
Here’s the trailer:
Sims 4: Star Wars: Journey to Batuu comes out on Sept. 8. Star Wars: Squadrons comes out Oct. 2. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be coming out in Spring 2021.
STAR WARS CELEBRATION
Star Wars Celebration should have been in full swing in Anaheim right now. One of the best things about Celebration is all of the exclusive merchandise. One of the worst things about Celebration are the agonizingly long lines to get into the merch store. This year, with Celebration canceled, it’s going to be (hopefully) easier than ever to get exclusive merchandise because they’ve opened up the store online.
In a few days, after the shop has been picked over by everyone who purchased tickets to Celebration, they’ll throw the doors open for the rest of the world. Everyone will have a shot to take home a piece of the Celebration that never was.
For more info or to shop, visit the Celebration store online.
To reminisce about Star Wars Celebration, The Star Wars Show put together a look back at all of the best moments from the show over the years. It’s great to see it all in retrospect.
THE CLONE WARS: STORIES OF LIGHT AND DARK
This week saw the release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Stories of Light and Dark, a new book that retells many of the key stories from The Clone Wars from different perspectives.
It’s a great read that allows you to take a look at different aspects of the episodes, shedding new light on your favorites. There was one original story in the book and it was written by E. Anne Convery. We interviewed her about it and you can read that here.
Each story is accompanied by an illustration of the character whose perspective it takes and is just a really lovely book.
You can order it now wherever books are sold. It would also be to your advantage to check out the audiobook. The voice cast of the show returned to read the stories from their points of view and it adds another layer to the universe. Almost like they're the NPR dramatized versions of your favorite episodes.
40 YEARS OF THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
As we continue to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, check out this rare bit of behind the scenes footage that documents the creation of the Hoth battle.
Until next week, may the Force be with you!
