Diabolical! Scream 5 adds The Boys' breakout star Jack Quaid in mystery role
Wee Hughie Campbell is joining Courteney Cox and David Arquette for the fifth Scream installment at Spyglass Films. Per Variety, the project has cast The Boys' Jack Quaid in a mystery role. Will he be running away from Ghost Face or the one who swings the kitchen knife?
Quaid is the second series newcomer after Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) joined the cast in August. She's reportedly playing a key role, but again, no details are known about her character at this time.
Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (the filmmaking duo behind Ready or Not) are helming the movie from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt (The Nutty Professor) and Guy Busick (Castle Rock). Cox and Arquette are locked in to return as two franchise veterans: Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers. Neve Campbell's involvement is still up in the air, although it wouldn't be much of a Scream film without the presence of Sidney Prescott. Creator Kevin Williamson is attached as an executive producer alongside Vanderbilt, Chad Villella, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak.
The studio hopes to kick off production in Wilmington, North Carolina, before 2020 is over. If all goes according to plan, the shoot will wrap in early 2021. Scream 5 is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters Jan. 14, 2022. With the COVID-19 pandemic still a pressing issue throughout most of the world, any or all of these details could change within the coming months.
Jack Quaid, who is the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, will reprise the role of Hughie Campbell in Season 2 of The Boys, which premieres on Amazon this Friday (Sept. 4). That show has already been renewed for a third season, but there's no word on when it might enter production.
