All the sci-fi TV and movies streaming in October 2021: From 'Halloween Kills' to 'Locke & Key'
It’s October 2021, so you know what that means — plenty of scary stuff is on the agenda as we hit the terrifying path to Halloween with lots of spine-tingling movies and TV on tap.
One of the biggest stories this month is the dual release of Halloween Kills in theaters and streaming on Peacock (along with a boatload of new horror flicks in the overall catalog). The story picks up in the minutes after the 2018 revival, where they thought Micheal Myers was dead (spoiler alert: he’s not). The NBC streamer also has new horror series Girl in the Woods on the way. Netflix is also upping its spooky game with the long-awaited second season of Locke & Key, plus the vampire horror flick Night Teeth.
Paramount Plus has the premiere of the new horror sequel Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, which looks to revive the horror franchise with a terrifying new chapter. HBO Max also has a major release, with Dune opening in both theaters and on HBO Max. Amazon Prime is also dropping some fresh horror tales, with its Welcome to the Blumhouse movie series and the I Know What You Did Last Summer adaptation.
Disney+ will continue rolling out new episodes of animated Marvel hit What If…? ahead of the season finale, plus the debut of the R.L. Stine-inspired series Just Beyond. The service will also be rolling Black Widow out for all subscribers, so you can rewatch Natasha’s solo adventure for some good ol’ comfort food.
Check out the full rundown below and let us know what you’ll be streaming.

HIGHLIGHTS
Another Life Season 2: Fan favorite Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff is back for Season 2 of this original sci-fi series, about a small team of astronauts sent off into deep space on a dangerous mission. It’s a bit more claustrophobic and scary than BSG, but still checks plenty of the boxes fans should love.
Night Teeth: A new horror thriller, just in time for Halloween. This one co-stars Megan Fox and focuses on a driver hired to chauffeur a group of vampires around L.A.
Locke & Key Season 2: The hit original supernatural series, based on the Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez comic of the same name, is finally back for some new adventures. The first season followed a family returning to their ancestral home — only to learn it’s also the nexus point for an array of dangerous, magical keys.
Army of Thieves: Need a bit more from the world of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead? just, y’know, without all the zombie stuff? This thriller should do it. It’s directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, though Snyder did stick around to produce. The film is set several years before the events of Army of the Dead and tells the safe-cracking origin story of locksmith Dieter (Schweighöfer).

HIGHLIGHTS
Unidentified with Demi Lovato: This unscripted series follows Lovato, their skeptical best friend Matthew and their sister Dallas, as they attempt to help uncover the truth about the UFO phenomena. While consulting with leading experts, Demi, Dallas and Matthew will investigate recent eyewitness encounters, uncover secret government reports, and conduct tests at known UFO hot spots.
The Lost Symbol (New Episodes): New episodes of the thriller series, based on the works of Dan Brown, continue rolling out this month. The story follows a young Harvard symbologist must solve a series of deadly puzzles to save his kidnapped mentor and thwart a chilling global conspiracy.
Halloween Kills: The long-awaited horror sequel comes to Peacock the same day it hits theaters. The story picks up minutes after Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor. But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster.

Dune: The big story on HBO Max this month is the premiere of Dune, which will open in theaters and streaming. The film looks to be an absolutely epic adaptation of the sci-fi classic, and if it finds an audience, promises to be the first in a series of films.
Aquaman: King of Atlantis: Want something a little different from the DC Universe? This should do the trick. A zany, animated set of specials based on Aquaman, which looks more Teen Titans Go! than DCEU.
