WIRE Buzz: Princess Bride fundraiser's inconceivable cast; Soulmates trailer; more

If you thought that it was "inconceivable" that the reunion script read of The Princess Bride couldn't get any more star-studded than it already was, then think again! 

According to Deadline, the event, which will be held as a virtual fundraiser for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, has added a few more big names to its cast list, including Whoopi Goldberg (Star Trek: The Next Generation) as the Ancient Booer and The Mother; Josh Gad (Frozen 2) as Fezzik; Eric Idle (Monty Python) as the Impressive Clergyman; King Bach (The Babysitter) as Yellin, the Assistant Brute, and The King; Shaun Ross (Perfect) as The Man with Albinism aka The Albino; Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) as the narrator; and Finn Wolfhard (It: Chapter 2) as the Grandson. Rob Reiner, who directed the 1987 classic, will be voicing the character of the Grandfather.  

Joining them will be most of the original cast of the film, who will reprise their now-iconic roles: Cary Elwes (Stranger Things) as Westley; Robin Wright (Wonder Woman: 1984) as Buttercup; Carol Kane (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Valerie; Chris Sarandon (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Prince Humperdinck; Mandy Patinkin (Criminal Minds) as Inigo Montoya; Wallace Shawn (The Incredibles) as Vizzini; and Billy Crystal (Monsters Inc.) as Miracle Max. 

The event will be followed by a Q&A which will be moderated by comedian Patton Oswalt (The Boys) and feature Norman Lear, who'd executive produced the movie. 

Anyone looking to watch the read-through will be required to sign up and donate, but there is no minimum amount required. 

This isn't the first time love for The Princess Bride has been invoked this year, first with short-form streaming platform Quibi's also star-filled "remake," which is currently available to watch, and next with Ravensburger's board game adaptation of the classic film, which should hit shelves early next month.

The Princess Bride reunion table read takes place Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. ET.

That's the question at the heart of Soulmates, AMC's new sci-fi anthology series that looks to blend love and science and explore how they can impact one another. 

Each of the show's six one-hour episodes will revolve around a different character as they either choose or choose not to discover the results of their tests, and how that might impact their various relationships.

Soulmates is created by Emmy Award-winning writer Will Bridges (Black Mirror, Stranger Things), and executive produced by Brett Goldstein (Superbob). 

Starring in the series is Sarah Snook (Succession), Kingsley Ben-Adir (The OA), Shamier Anderson (Wynonna Earp), Sonya Cassidy (Lodge 49), Charlie Heaton (New Mutants), Malin Akerman (Watchmen), Bill Skarsgård (Castle Rock), Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad), JJ Feild (Turn), Laia Costa (Victoria), Shamier Anderson (Goliath), Georgina Campbell (Black Mirror), and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Candyman), among others. 

Soulmates will premiere on AMC Oct. 5 at 10 p.m. ET. 

And finally, a little extra magic is coming to the stage! 

Deadline is reporting that the film and stage rights to The Magic in Changing Your Stars by author Leah Henderson (One Shadow On the Wall) has been bought by Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award-nominated actor Brandon Victor Dixon (Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert), and Victoria Lang and Ryan Bogner, the producers and co-presidents of Broadway & Beyond Theatricals.

The children's book, which was published by Sterling Children's Books, tells the story of Ailey Benjamin Lane, an 11-year-old boy intent on landing the role of the Scarecrow in his school's production of The Wiz. Unfortunately, when things go wrong during his audition, he tells his Grampa that he's going to quit. That's when the older man tells him a secret from his own childhood: that he once dreamed of becoming a tap dancer, and that Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, a Hollywood star and the unofficial Mayor of Harlem, even gave him a pair of special shoes. When Ailey tries on the tap shoes, he's taken back to 1930s Harlem, where he meets his 12-year-old grandfather. Inspired by his Grampa's secret, Ailey becomes determined to help his grandfather "change his stars," and in a way, change his own. 

Dixon and Warren Adams will serve as lead producers under their label, WalkRunFly Productions, along with Lang and Bogner. Joining them will be Sharlene Martin, president of Martin Literary & Media Management, who will serve as the project's executive producer. 

"There is a famous African proverb, Until the Lion learns to write, the hunter will always be glorified. I immediately thought of this when I read Leah’s book," said Adams. "It evoked a beautiful positive narrative about the African American family structure while paying homage to some of the great American icons. We believe that the work will have mass appeal across multiple cultures without compromising its cultural integrity."

No date has been set for any version of an adaptation.
