Pennyworth shows off first pic of Jack Bannon as pre-Batman Alfred
The TCA press conferences may have laid some groundwork for the alternative universe Britain that young Alfred Pennyworth finds himself in over the course of Epix’s Batman prequel, but now fans of the agent/butler/surrogate father of Bruce Wayne can get a glimpse of the hero as a young man.
This is Jack Bannon as an Alfred that fights the descendants of Jack the Ripper and looks dashing all the while in an immaculately-tailored tuxedo. Double-O who?
Take a look:
Sorry Master Wayne, there’s a new hero in town. The London-dweller will team up with Bruce’s father, Thomas Wayne, and presumably fight plenty of crime along the way with his newly-formed security company. There’s a lot of origin story to be told before he settles down to start stitching Bat-wounds and dusting Wayne Manor.
Pennyworth seems to be aiming for the period-set, action/spy/drama crowd, and using the DC universe as a frame should hopefully make for an interesting angle. The show is getting a 10-episode run from Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, both Gotham alumni. The Gotham pedigree should work in its favor, as that show built one of the wildest DC shows ever made without ever really messing with a cowl and cape.
Pennyworth premieres this summer on Epix.
