Oscar Isaac in talks to rise as Moon Knight in Disney+ series
While we at SYFY WIRE had previously contemplated some different actors with comic chops and dramatic range that could take up the mantle of Moon Knight for the Marvel hero's live-action debut, the Disney+ show now looks like it's going with a legitimate genre hero. Yeah, we're talking about Star Wars alum Oscar Isaac as Mark Spector.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Isaac is in negotiations to lead the show, one of Marvel's high-profile Disney+ series, along with Ms. Marvel, WandaVision, Loki, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
The Star Wars and X-Men actor has won over genre fans a plenty with characters like Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise and Apocalypse in Fox's X-Men-verse (making Moon Knight a post-Apocalypse role for the actor). But now he looks to enter into the mainline Marvel franchise.
In the comics, Spector was blessed with powers (and saved from death) by the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu, leaving the hero now known as Moon Knight with voices in his head and a chip on his shoulder. The ex-mercenary serves as Khonshu's avatar, doing good under the guise of his multiple secret identities.
Now starring in his first live-action show, run by The Umbrella Academy's Jeremy Slater, Moon Knight will develop as a hero (and allow unfamiliar Marvel fans to get acquainted with him) before possibly moving on to the big screen.
Fans can next see Isaac in Dune on Oct. 1, 2021, but no word yet on when Moon Knight will hit Disney+.
