Back in April, we were given sad news that San Diego Comic-Con International would not take place in 2020 due to coronavirus pandemic concerns, marking the very first cancellation of the event in its entire 50-year history. Organizers relayed the info with deep regret but promised it would triumphantly return in July of 2021.

In its place, a virtual version of the iconic pop-culture exposition has exploded, with artists, writers, and creators of all flavors participating around the world. This revamped in-home edition of the annual convention, officially called Comic-Con@Home, will roll out online Wednesday, July 22, to Sunday, July 26.

Superstar artist Alex Ross (Marvels, Kingdom Come) will be attending the event via his YouTube channel with a shiny new documentary chronicling his stellar career — and SYFY WIRE has an exclusive clip to whet your appetite.

This must-see premiere will be available exclusively at the Alex Ross YouTube channel on Wednesday, July 22, at 8 p.m. ET.

For this revealing new video project specially created for Comic-Con@Home, director Remsy Atassi has plumbed the artistic depths of the Illinois-based legend often called "The Norman Rockwell of Comics" to learn more about how his use of extreme realism and dynamic compositions offer a romantic notion of our cherished caped superheroes over the past three decades.

"In this 30-minute documentary featurette we take a look at Alex's new releases, but also go deep into his process," Atassi tells SYFY WIRE. "We've sourced hundreds of fan questions, about everything from gouache to Kingdom Come, and I think people will be excited to see how much Alex has to say about it all.

"Over the past few years I’ve been capturing Alex at work, and seeing his process up close has been pretty incredible. When you witness the volume of his work, the speed that he’s able to execute It, and the incredible detail that goes into every painting it’s easy to be inspired.

"Given the constraints of COVID-19 we haven’t been able to capture Alex in his studio as often as we’d like this year, but in lieu of SDCC we wanted to give the fans something bigger than usual," he added. "Alex offered us an interview with broad access to talk about his artistic process, and while also taking a look back at so many of the places and projects of his career."
