Monsterland welcomes horror fans to the deadliest place on Earth in first trailer

Who needs Disneyland? It's 2020 and the only area this year's prepared horror fans for is Monsterland. The Hulu anthology series based on Nathan Ballingrud’s North American Lake Monsters looks to be an intensely relatable spookfest, filled with anxious people and deadly creatures ... and they're definitely connected. The first footage below makes that clear, while also teasing a little of the terror coming for those not willing to wait another month for a new episode of Hulu's other horror anthology, Into the Dark.

With a long, Southern-fried voiceover from Kaitlyn Dever, Monsterland's first trailer gives fans an overview of its eight episodes and the monsters they bring — both human and non-human. With a cast including Kelly Marie Tran, Jonathan Tucker, Charlie Tahan, Nicole Beharie, Hamish Linklater, Marquis Rodriguez, Bill Camp, Michael Hsu Rosen, Taylor Schilling, Roberta Colindrez, Adria Arjona, Trieu Tran, Mike Colter, and Adepero Oduye ... well, there's plenty to like here even before the blood starts to spill toward the end.

Take a look:

Blending folklore and flawed characters, the show looks like it'll be full of the kinds of allegorical work that horror TV has been doing lately, most recently by Lovecraft Country. Created and written by Mary Laws, the series looks like it'll show off some mermaids, evil angels, and tons and tons of bad people.

And just look at this fun poster:
