WIRE BUZZ: Mimic TV reboot from Paul W.S. Anderson; Seth Rogen talks TMNT teenage movie; more

Yet another classic horror film is taking on a new life of its own! But unlike Candyman, Halloween Kills, or even Scream 5, which will all be released on the big screen, Mimic will be getting a television series reboot. 

Deadline reports that the pilot for Miramax Television's reboot of the 1997 cult classic, sci-fi horror thriller will be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Monster Hunter), who will also executive produce the show, alongside producing partner Jeremy Bolt. Jim Danger Gray (Hannibal) will also serve as EP, while also writing the adaptation and acting as showrunner on the series. 

Based on Donald A. Wolheim's short story of the same name, Mimic focuses on genetically engineered insects who've since evolved and developed the ability to mimic their human prey, and the humans who are trying to prevent them from completely taking over. The 1997 film was co-written and directed by Guillermo del Torro (Antlers).

Anderson and Bolt's previous projects include the massively successful Resident Evil franchise, as well as horror films Event Horizon and Death Race. 

Splinter's going to have a shell of a time on his hands in the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

According to Seth Rogen (An American Pickle), whose production company Point Grey is producing the CG-animated reboot along with Nickelodeon, the upcoming flick will focus on the Turtles' relatively young age, which is what attracted Rogen to the property in the first place.

"When I look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the teenage part was weirdly what stuck out to me the most," said Rogen in an interview with Business Insider. "I think one thing we've been pretty consistently good at over the years is creating material about teenagers, from Blockers, Good Boys, and Superbad. That was really what became exciting for us is how do we make a great action-adventure movie that's also a great teenage movie."

Considering that Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael are skateboarding, pizza-loving do-gooders, this doesn't seem like too far a stretch! 

The as-of-yet-unnamed TMNT movie will be written by Brendan O’Brian (Neighbors) with Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls, Connected) set to direct. It will mark Nickelodeon Animation Studio's first-ever theatrical production and will be produced in-house by Executive Vice President of Animation Production and Development, Ramsey Naito (The Boss Baby).

Naomi Scott (Aladdin) will be going to a whole new world — or at least an alien planet — in the upcoming sci-fi comedy Distant. 

Deadline reports that the Charlie's Angels reboot actress (as seen above) will be taking on the role previously given to Rachel Brosnahan, who had to step down due to pandemic-related scheduling conflicts between the film and the upcoming season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. 

Scott will co-star alongside Hamilton's Anthony Ramos, with both actors serving as leads on the upcoming Amblin feature. Ramos will play an asteroid miner who crash lands on an alien planet and has to survive his harsh new surroundings as he makes his way across extreme terrain to reach the only other survivor, a woman (Scott) trapped in her escape pod. 

Will Speck and Josh Gordon (Blades of Glory) will direct the film, which is written by Spenser Cohen (Extinction).
