First Look: Mega Man zooms into a new 'Fully Charged' series from Boom! Studios
Springing to life from the spirited Mega Man TV show and Capcom's Japanese video game franchise centered around Aki Light, a normal robot schoolboy who resides in the futuristic metropolis of Silicon City, a world co-inhabited by humans and robots, an inspired new comic being published by Boom! Studios blasts the supercharged character back into the limelight — and SYFY WIRE has an exclusive first look at the vibrant interior artwork.
Boom! Studios, in collaboration with WildBrain Ltd. and Dentsu Entertainment USA, is delivering an early peek at Mega Man: Fully Charged #1, a new six-issue comic book miniseries from Mega Man: Fully Charged television series writers A.J. Marchisello and Marcus Rinehart, along with artist Stefano Simeone (Read Only Memories) and celebrated comics creators and TV/film executive producers, creators, and writers Man of Action Entertainment.
Based on the Cartoon Network's dynamic series of the same name, which aired its 52 episodes from August 5, 2018, to May 23, 2019, Mega Man: Fully Charged showcases an electrifying cast of heroes such as Mega Man and his insane Mega Buster arm cannon, his sidekick dog, Rush, and the genius engineer Dr. Light in a cascade of adrenalized adventures battling a formidable force of rogue Robot Masters led by Dr. Wily.
The plotline picks up after Mega Man’s father, Dr. Light, is kidnapped, and a startling truth rocks Mega Man’s world as it appears that the Robot Masters know decidedly more about his own secret history than he does.
But as Dr. Wily’s evil machinations trigger Mega Man’s long-forgotten memories of the devastating human/robot war, our titular hero is left to question his identity and whether he can trust anything anymore, including the person he knows as his father.
Writers AJ Marchisello and Marcus Rinehart were thrilled to soar back into Mega Man's realm in this fresh comic book adaptation.
"When we got the chance to play in the action-packed universe of Mega Man, we set out to find a new way to explore the shadow side of such classic characters as Dr. Light and Rush while still staying true to what made them iconic," they tell SYFY WIRE.
"Much like in other exciting BOOM! Studios titles we are fans of, such as the fan favorite Power Rangers. But when Stefano Simone’s art, Igor Monti’s colors, and Ed Dukeshire's letters came in for the first time, we were in awe with how this new, futuristic world truly came alive in all its neon glory. We can’t wait for you to be immersed in the battle for the soul of Silicon City!"
Mega Man: Fully Charged #1 arrives on August 26 and launches with a bold main cover art by Toni Infante (Champions), and variant covers courtesy of artist Miguel Mercado (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and InHyuk Lee (Seven Secrets).
