LeBron James shows off redesigned Tune Squad jersey for Space Jam: A New Legacy
Nyehhhh...what's up, doc? Back in April, LeBron James revealed the logo and official title for the long-awaited Space Jam sequel, A New Legacy. Today, we finally got our first look at the redesigned Tune Squad jersey the NBA All-Star will be rocking alongside the Looney Tunes roster.
As you'll see, the new look is quite a deviation from the iconic red, white, and blue jersey from the 1996 movie. The 21st century uniform is a lot more blue with the classic orange-red concentric circles of the Merry Melodies logo pushed off to the side. It's a bold move to change up such a beloved aesthetic, but hopefully, it'll pay off when the sequel arrives in theaters next summer.
Check it out for yourself:
James is taking over the franchise reigns from Michael Jordan, who helped Bugs, Daffy, Lola, Porky, and the rest avoid eternal enslavement at the alien theme park known as Moron Mountain. Next to nothing is known about the plot of A New Legacy — all we really know is that the project is being executive produced by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) and directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip).
"I think people are really going to be surprised at how different and original this new one is," cast member Don Cheadle told SYFY WIRE in July. He also described the movie as "a lot of fun to make."
Sonequa Martin-Green, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, and Diana Taurasi co-star alongside James and Cheadle. Coogler co-wrote the screenplay with Sev Ohanian, who produced Coogler's feature debut, Fruitvale Station.
Space Jam: A New Legacy will take to the court when the film arrives in theaters everywhere July 16, 2021.
