WIRE Buzz: Henry Cavill primps on Witcher set; Lovecraft Country drops playlist; more
The Witcher is once again back in production for its second season, and while there's no update on what will be Geralt of Rivia's general bathing situation when the popular Netflix series returns sometime next year, Henry Cavill (Zack Snyder's Justice League) has offered fans a bit of an update on the monster hunter's hair.
The actor posted a photo of himself in the makeup trailer on Instagram (below) today, revealing what it currently takes to put on Geralt's infamous long, blonde locks.
"No bald cap this year. Just pounds of 2 types of medical tape and some glue...." said the actor, who's known for going above and beyond what's required to get into character for this particular role. "Removal is a joy. Jacqui and Ailbhe here, though, have the deft touch of angels. Jacqui more so an Angel of Vengeance, but that's all part of her charm."
Cavill also added, "Oh and for those who may be worrying. All of us are [COVID-19] cleared and bubbled ??. We get tested twice a week up here in Kaer Morhen!"
The Witcher was one of many productions that were forced to shut down filming earlier this year, due to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich returns as showrunner. Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri), Joey Batey (Jaskier), and Anna Shaffer (Triss) also star.
Netflix previously announced the development of a (Cavill-less) prequel spin-off limited series called The Witcher: Blood Origin. No news on when that will begin production.
The Witcher returns to Netflix in 2021.
If you're one of the many fans already sucked into Lovecraft Country, then you'll be glad to know that HBO has created an official playlist for the show on Spotify.
Among the songs featured are old-school tracks like Sister Rosa Tharpe's "I Want A Tall Skinny Papa" and Little Richard's "A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," which fans will recognize as two of the numbers sung onscreen by Leti's sister Ruby (Wunmi Mosaku) during a block party that takes place in the pilot episode. (If you've yet to watch it, the pilot is currently available to stream for free on YouTube.)
The show is set in the 1950s and follows the story of Atticus 'Tic' Freeman (Jonathan Majors), a young Black man who must venture through the Jim Crow-era South of America as he goes in search of his missing father, Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams). He's accompanied by his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) and childhood best friend Letitia "Leti" Lewis (Jurnee Smollett). As the trio continues on in their journey through the titular area, they discover that the racism of the Deep South may not even be the worst thing they can encounter, as they're faced with all manner of monsters, previously thought to have lived in the pages of H.P. Lovecraft's works.
Mischa Green (Underground) serves as showrunner and writer and for the series, which is executive produced by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Candyman) and J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker).
Lovecraft Country currently airs on HBO on Sundays.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Star Wars classic The Empire Strikes Back, and as part of the celebrations, LEGO will be releasing a set featuring none other than perhaps the most iconic scene from the entire franchise: Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader's Bespin Duel.
This marks the first time the set — which was announced by the Star Wars website — will be sold as a separate model, instead of being a part of a larger Cloud City set, as it has been twice now.
And for any eagle-eyed LEGO Star Wars fans out there who might've noticed the lack of lightsaber and a certain missing hand in the promotional images below, rest assured that those pieces will also be included in the set. (Though fans will have to provide their own impressions of Vader declaring, "No, I am your father," as well as Luke's anguished exclamations after.)
This isn't the only bit of LEGO-related Star Wars news to be announced recently, with a brand-new LEGO-based holiday special set after The Rise of Skywalker making its way onto Disney+ later this year, just in time to celebrate Life Day!
The LEGO Star Wars Bespin Duel set will be sold exclusively on Target.com starting Aug. 27.
