Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen, according to Chris Pratt

Even though they’ll have one less Gunn in their armory, the Guardians will still be protecting the galaxy at least one more time.

The LEGO Movie 2 opens in theaters on February 8, but the U.S. premiere took place the Saturday before. Emmet himself, Chris Pratt, was on hand to help celebrate. Speaking to Variety on the red carpet, Pratt was asked about the LEGO elephant in the room, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Director of the first two installments James Gunn was removed from the project last summer after a series of tweets from many years ago surfaced featuring offensive material. Despite protests from the cast, crew, and fans, Disney stuck with their decision.

Production stopped on the movie, which was scheduled to start in 2018. Despite all these roadblocks, Pratt assures fans that there will be a third movie. “I promise there’ll be a third movie, I don’t know exactly what that’s going to look like, but I know everyone on board is just eager to give the fans what they want and wrap up a trilogy in a meaningful way.”

While it’s good to know we’re going to get a conclusion to the Guardians’ story, it will be interesting to see how the finished product will look. A new director is going to bring a different voice to the film. Also, with the absence of Gunn, will the entire team be willing to stay on board the Benatar (for those who don’t know, the Benatar is the name of the Guardians’ ship in Infinity War)?

Whether it’s finding out how our heroes come back from the snap or who’s going to be the new creative force for the Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel is always great at keeping us on our toes.
