HBO Max's Raised By Wolves showcases the androids' freakiest technology in exclusive clip
Raised By Wolves — the ambitious upcoming HBO Max sci-fi series from creator Aaron Guzikowski and executive producer/episodic director Ridley Scott — is almost upon fans, which means they'd better prep for its android parents, hostile planet, and apocalyptic religious war. Yes, Raised By Wolves has a lot of heavy topics on its mind.
But more than those, fans had better prep for some serious weirdness. That comes fast and loose in the series — and it's something that SYFY WIRE's exclusive clip showcases.
Featuring Mother (Amanda Collin) and her son Campion (Winta McGrath) in a quiet moment inside their makeshift home on Kepler-22b, the clip doesn't actually feature the voice of Collin at first. She's channeling a lost child, first in voice. Then in face. The effect is terrifying and existentially upsetting. Basically, exactly what Scott fans are after. Alien still causes nightmares.
Take a look:
That "virtual retinal display" was certainly a surprise to Campion and Mother, and a shock to fans. But this isn't the biggest piece of VFX that the android will be sporting throughout the series — just one of the most emotionally affecting. Campion and crew will be contending with more troubling things than the deepfaked face of a dead friend as the show goes on. But, spooky as it may be, that's all part of the fun.
The show also stars Travis Fimmel, Niamh Algar, Felix Jamieson, Ethan Hazzard, Jordan Loughran, Aasiya Shah, and Ivy Wong.
Raised By Wolves' first three episodes hit HBO Max on Sept. 3.
