Exclusive: Jughead breaks the timeline in new Archie Comics series Jughead's Time Police
With The CW’s spicy and twisty Riverdale leading an Archie Renaissance both on screen and in the character’s home turf back in the world of comics, it’s no surprise that one of the fan-favorite cast will be branching out on his own once again. Jughead will be going all Time Cop once again now that Archie Comics is launching a new mini-series version of Jughead’s Time Police.
The original series ran six issues from July 1990 to May 1991, and now Jughead is going back to the future thanks to the ideas of the early ‘90s. The new series will run five issues and launch in June, with the potential for more issues depending on how popular the book is with retailers and fans. Sina Grace will write, with art from Jughead’s own Derek Charm, who will also do the cover. Variants will come from Tyler Boss, Francesco Francavilla, Robert Hack with Kelly Fitzpatrick, and Tracy Yardley.
“Jughead’s Time Police is a beloved concept that was screaming to be modernized, so once we read Sina's pitch, we knew we were in business,” said Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura. “He honors what came before but gives the idea a much-needed jolt. I can't think of a better artist to bring it to life than Derek, who had a stellar run on the main Jughead title -- which kind of feels like a warmup for this!"
Following Charm’s other work with the character, Jughead will look a bit more like Riverdale actor Cole Sprouse than his plucky origins in the new Time Police.

The story, according to the official synopsis, will be sparked “when Jughead messes up his Riverdale Annual Bake-Off pie recipe.” In fact he does it just so badly that he’s “disqualified and banned from all future Bake-Offs,” which means that of course, the only way to fix it is time travel. Things inevitably go wrong and the brilliant burger muncher gets locked in an “epic battle to keep the time stream intact!”
Grace teased fans by saying, “Jughead messes up the time-space continuum, so don’t be surprised if you see different versions of your favorite characters pop up!” while Charm added that “Time travel elements are just the beginning.” Sounds like the craziness that Jughead fans have come to expect (and love).
Jughead’s Time Police #1 goes on sale June 12.
