Dumbo international trailer doubles down on Tim Burton's fantastical touch

The international trailer released early this morning for Disney's Dumbo remake from Tim Burton finally addresses the "issue" of the titular character's floppy ears.

Moments after Dumbo is born, the circus ringmaster/owner, Max Medici (Danny DeVito) takes one look and exclaims in disgust: "What is that? A face only a mother could love!" Elephant handler Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) is given a day to make the baby elephant's massive ears "disappear."

When Medici realizes what the newborn can do — fly — he changes his attitude and starts referring to Dumbo as "Big D." Uh, Max, let's try and workshop that name a bit, huh?

If the trailer is an indication of anything, it's of Burton's sweeping vision for this movie. You can tell he really wants to immerse us in this world, which is grander and more fantastical than our own could ever be; this is a place where wonderful things can happen. The production design alone looks to be worth the price of admission.

"This set, as you can see, is all practically built,” Farrell recently said during a set visit with press. “I’ve never seen anything like [Dumbo’s]. We haven’t shot any exterior shots — it’s all stage ... But I feel like I’m existing in a practical world and it’s not asking me to imagine too many things that aren’t there to save that flying elephant.”

DeVito isn't the only Burton alum in the cast. DeVito's Batman Returns co-star, Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming), re-teams with the director for the first time in 27 years to play V.A. Vandemere, a greedy businessman who wants to exploit Dumbo's talent for money. Another Burton vet is Eva Green (Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children), who portrays Colette Marchant, a trapeze artist at the circus owned by Medici. Alan Arkin (Argo) rounds out the ensemble as Wall Street maven J. Griffin Remington, according to Variety.

Penned by Ehren Kruger (The Ring), Dumbo takes flight in theaters everywhere on March 29.
