There may be love in the air as Valentine's Day approaches and winter's chill fades, but nobody ever said anything about the cold vacuum of the cosmos. DC Comics is poised to prove that Cupid's arrows still fly straight and strike their targets even in the absence of Earth's atmosphere with a timely anthology of stories set in the great beyond, and SYFY WIRE has an exclusive look inside the heartwarming one-shot.

Mysteries of Love in Space #1 is a cosmic collection of eight love-spun tales starring Superman, Lois Lane, the New Gods, Teen Titans' Crush, Green Lantern, Darkseid, Hawkgirl, and other luminaries of the vast DC Universe.

This 80-page, prestige-format issue is written by an all-star team of talent including James Tynion IV, Saladin Ahmed, Cecil Castellucci, Kyle Higgins, Aaron Gillespie, Andrea Shea, Gardner Fox, and Jeff Loveness, then paired with art from Kyle Hotz, Tom Grummett, Elena Casagrande, Jesus Merino, Max Dunbar, and others.

Our sneak peek at James Tynion IV's (Batman, The Woods) passionate contribution, "An Apokoliptian Love Story," is forged in the noxious fumes of the fire pits of Darkseid's Apokolips, where an uprising causes rebellion, deceit, and love to bloom brightly. It's combined with brilliant art by Jesus Merino, then accented with piercing colors via Romulo Fajardo Jr. and precise lettering from Clayton Cowles.

"It probably says something about me that the second I was asked to contribute a story to a cosmic love-story anthology, my first thought was of Darkseid," Tynion tells SYFY WIRE. "But honestly, the New Gods mythology has always been one of my absolute favorite parts of DC Comics lore, and to play with all those pieces in their core iconic states is a real thrill. Jesus Merino did an incredible job channeling Jack Kirby to bring it all to life. I really couldn't be happier with it. Saraqel's story may not be a happy one. Few love stories on Apokolips are. I hope you all enjoy!"
