Sarah Michelle Gellar goes full Buffy as genre stars cope with the coronavirus pandemic

Your favorite genre celebrities are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic just like the rest of us. They're taking it day-by-day, avoiding contact with the outside world, and attempting to slay the deadly COVID-19 pathogen with a wooden stake?

Ok, that last part isn't entirely true, but Sarah Michelle Gellar did harken back to her Buffy the Vampire Slayer days on Instagram by showing off a wooden stake she found on a recreational (and more importantly, solo) walk. Gellar didn't make any mention of the virus, though it stands to reason she was passing the time by taking a stroll during the nationwide self-quarantine. She even got some feedback from Buffy co-stars Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn Summers) and David Boreanaz (Angel).

"Buffy, what are we going to do now?," Trachtenberg wrote, possibly alluding to the current pandemic.

"I wish I knew," Gellar responded.

Over in Terminator Land, Arnold Schwarzenegger — the T-800 himself — urged people to remain indoors, while chilling with his pets. Did we mention those pets were a pony and a donkey?

"No more restaurants, ok? Forget all that. Public gatherings, restaurants, gymnasiums — out the window," Schwarzenegger said in his viral (pun not intended) PSA.

Collaborating with his legendary father, Max Brooks (author of World War Z) delivered his own public service announcement about the coronavirus. Since his dad is 93, Brooks stressed the importance of preventing the spread of COVID-19 to more susceptible groups like the elderly. He went on to urge folks to practice social distancing, avoid crowds, and, of course, wash their hands.

In the writer's own words, "Don't be a spreader" because the last thing you want to do is wipe out "a whole generation of comedic legends."

Even when separated from the outside world by a glass door, Mel Brooks still has the power to make us laugh by telling his son to go home.

Yesterday was John Boyega's 27th birthday, and he celebrated the occasion indoors with a few close friends and a Naruto cake. The Star Wars actor is a big anime fan.

During his recent guest appearance on Hot Ones, he explained:

"Anime, I think because of its long-form format, so, it lasts for ages. You take something like Naruto, for example. You literally watch a character grow up day-by-day, and then there are filler episodes that give you, kind of like, clarity on the world surrounding the leads, or the several different leads in the anime. And it's just the way they tell stories."

Taking time off from his MCU adventures with Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan posted a video on how to properly wash your hands. Please note that the process should take the length of the "Happy Birthday" song. Expletives are optional.

"Life 2020. Be safe out there. Think of your loved ones, parents, kids, the elderly. Be kind and mindful of others. Wash your hands. #coronavirus #wereallinthistogether," he wrote in the caption.

In a separate post, Stan addressed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier shutting down its production (one of the first shows to do so) over coronavirus concerns.

And lastly, we have Dave Filoni, who delivered a message of optimism via a sketch of fan favorite Ahsoka Tano and a few other rapscallions from the Star Wars universe.

"We are all in this together, may the Force be with you! Your friends at Lucasfilm and the Galaxy far, far, away....," Filoni wrote on Instagram.

In addition to creating Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Filoni also writes, executive produces, and directs The Mandalorian on Disney+.

Tapping into that old exercise of everyone being separated from him by six degrees, Kevin Bacon urged people over Instagram to stay home, so as to prevent a further spread of the virus. He introduced the hashtag of #IStayHomeFor and encouraged others to post their own at-home videos.

"We’re all connected by various degrees (Trust me, I know!)," wrote the actor, who nominated Jimmy Fallon, Elton John, Kevin Hart, Brandi Carlile, David Beckham, and Demi Lovato to follow his lead.
