Castle Rock Season 2: Lizzy Caplan is here to break your ankles as Misery's Annie Wilkes in first trailer
It's about time we floated back to the town of Castle Rock, Maine for another bout of Stephen King-inspired hijinks. The first trailer for Season 2 of Hulu's Castle Rock is now online, and it introduces us to a brand-new interpretation of Annie Wilkes played by Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls). Known for her kidnap and torture of writer Paul Sheldon in King's 1987 novel, Misery, this version of Nurse Wilkes has a daughter, Joy Wilkes (played by Eighth Grade's Elsie Fisher).
Created by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, the series uses nearly all of King's books, novellas, and short stories to tell a story that breathes new life into the legendary author's beloved works. Last season delivered on well-known people and places like Alan Pangborn (Scott Glenn) and Shawshank Prison. With so many mysteries left dangling by the final episode, we're hoping for a heaping helping of resolution when it comes to Henry Deaver (André Holland), The Kid (Bill Skarsgård), Molly Strand (Melanie Lynskey), Ruth Deaver (Sissy Spacek), and Jackie Torrance (Jane Levy).
Try not to fear for the fragility of the bones in your ankles by watching the trailer (which includes a cool nod to Jerusalem's Lot) below:
The Wilkses won't be the only newcomers in town, since Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption), Paul Sparks (House of Cards), Matthew Alan (13 Reasons Why) are all portraying members of the Merill crime family: Reginald "Pop" Merill, John "Ace" Merill, and Chris Merill. With John now entering the picture, there's the strong possibility of seeing Leland Gaunt, the entrepreneurial demon from 1991's Needful Things who used "Ace" as a puppet in his evil scheme to corrupt (and ultimately destroy) Castle Rock.
Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips) and Yusra Warsama (Assassin's Creed: Origins) also join the cast as Abdi Omar and Dr. Nadia Omar respectively. All of these new characters make an appearance in the tense new trailer, and we can't wait to see how they all interact with one another. In particular, we're looking forward to seeing Robbins' performance, which most likely trades the kindness and cleverness of Andy Dufresne for the cold-hearted and impulsive instincts of a career criminal.
Produced by J.J. Abrams, Season 2 of Castle Rock premieres on Hulu Wednesday, Oct. 23.
