Watch: Kevin Feige spills on how Captain Marvel's directors ‘put their own spin’ on things
She helped whoop Thanos’ Mad Titan butt in Avengers: Endgame, and now we’re ready to zip back to where it all began.
Captain Marvel is arriving on home video, and in this exclusive clip from the upcoming Blu-ray release, members of the creative team discuss the fresh take directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"We've always had powerful female characters in our movies,” says Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige in the clip, “but having Captain Marvel as the title character for the first time feels like it's overdue."
“So,” Feige continues, “we always love to look for filmmakers who’ve done incredibly special films, and [directors] Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have done just that.”
The Marvel Studio head adds that the directors understood Carol Danvers’ story and “put their own spin on the material and [have] given it a voice and a spirit that’s fresh.”
Actor Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Phil Coulson in Captain Marvel (and elsewhere throughout the Marvel Universe), agrees that the directors “have this intense enthusiasm for [the material] and a desire to honor what’s been set up about these characters and also take it somewhere new.”
The clip also shows some really cool behind-the-scenes shots of Brie Larson spinning around as the titular character.
