Get a first look at the Birds of Prey costumes at NYCC 2019
New York Comic Con 2019 has been the con of Harley Quinn. And we don't mean she's pulling a con on Batman and Robin, either. The convention, whether highlighting the DC villain/antiheroine in animated form or as a live-action film star, has been all about Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) might win the record for the longest title of all superhero cinema, but it'll also set some bars for its stars' beautiful plumage: something that SYFY WIRE got to see for itself when we checked out some never-before-seen costumes from the film, including those of Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya, and Cassandra Cain.
These costumes, which fans can check out below, helped make stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, and Ella Jay Basco respectively shine as the titular team - beyond what the trailer has shown so far.
Director Cathy Yan and screenwriter Christina Hodson helped put together the film that's already helped move the big screen version of Harley away from the male gaze, and these new costumes from designer Erin Benach are realistic and crazy - perfect for this team. She's done with the Joker. She's taking a break from the Suicide Squad.
Plus, some of these costumes are a little different from the ones seen in the film's first poster:
Also appearing in the film are Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) hits theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
