Vampires, sheep hybrids, and futuristic assassinations all collide in this morning's casting roundup.
You'll see big names like Sean Bean, Noomi Rapace, and Jennifer Jason Leigh, who have all boarded some top-level genre projects, from horror, to supernatural dramas, to all-out science fiction.
Are you excited? Because we sure are...
A Dracula-based drama produced by the BBC and Netflix has recruited the likes of John Heffernan (The Crown) and Dolly Wells (Doll & Em’s), Deadline reports.
Claes Bang (The Girl in the Spider’s Web) has already been cast as the titular bloodsucker. Joanna Scanlan (No Offence), Morfydd Clark (His Dark Materials), Lujza Richter (Phantom Thread), and Mark Gatiss (Doctor Who) are also a part of the cast.
Production is set to begin on the three, 90-minute episodes this spring. Stephen Moffat and Gatiss co-created the series, which is based on Bram Stoker's influential horror novel of the same name from 1897.
Up next, Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) has joined the cast of Lamb, an upcoming supernatural drama film from Scandinavia, writes Variety.
Helmed by Valdimar Johannsson, the movie centers on Maria (Rapace) and Ingvar, a married couple of sheep farmers living in Iceland. One Christmas Eve, they find a baby that is half human, half sheep and, longing for a child of their own, they decide to raise it.
“A script like this is rare and I directly felt that I had to do it," Rapace told Variety. "I’ve never done anything like this before and I can’t wait to start filming and go back to my roots in Iceland.”
Principal photography is set for mid-2019. Johannsson wrote the screenplay with the Oscar-nominated Icelandic author Sjon.
Lastly, Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (Annihilation) have been tapped to star in Brandon Cronenberg's sci-fi thriller Possessor, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Written by Brandon (he is the son of famed director David Cronenberg), Possessor is about a shady organization that plants the minds of high-level assassins into the bodies of unassuming individuals. The main action of the plot arrives when agent Tasya Vos (played by Birdman's Andrea Riseborough) finds herself trapped in the body of a violent man (It Comes at Night's Christopher Abbott).
Stacy Martin (Nymphomaniac) is also joining the cast.
