Arrow actor says Green Lantern possibility discussed since first season
One of the best parts of the Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds this year was confirmation that at least in some world Arrow character John Diggle becomes DC hero Green Lantern. Showrunner Beth Schwartz commented with “to be continued” about the nod, leaving the possibility of seeing it become real on the show up in the air. Now the actor behind Diggle, David Ramsey, is addressing the potential future for his character, and it seems like the Arrow team has been thinking about it for quite some time.
In an interview with TV Guide, Ramsey said they’ve “been talking about that ring since Season 1.”
“I always loved the idea of being able to jump into the John Stewart mythos, obviously, but I also loved the idea that we were creating something that didn't exist before. John Diggle never existed before,” Ramsey said. “We created this character, Spartan, that never existed in the comics or in any other universe, and now it's part of the comics. So that was always something and continues to be something I'm really proud of.”
That being said, Ramsey went on to admit he's excited about the reference since “who can resist playing the Green Lantern?” He doesn’t know if it will ever come to be on Arrow, though.
“I don't have the answer to that—it's way above my pay grade—but it's something [I] would love to do …” he said. “If John Stewart fits within that realm some type of way or another, great. If not, I couldn't have picked a better role to have played in my life.”
Arrow airs on The CW Mondays at 8 p.m. EST.
