Wynonna Earp SDCC panel says Season 4 will be ‘more sexy, more violent’ & have ‘more F-bombs’

Wynonna Earp fans (Earpers, for those in the know), have been waiting for years to get more episodes of the show that follows the supernatural trials and adventures that Wynonna — heir to Wyatt Earp — faces with her family and friends.

How to Watch

Catch up on Wynonna Earp on the SYFY app.

It’s been a long wait, and while fans have been able to chew on a trailer that dropped in late June to keep them sated, many an Earper are eager for more — even though they only have to wait until Sunday night for the first episode of Season 4 to drop on SYFY.

Those who can’t wait these last few hours, however, found some sustenance in the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel Saturday night. During the virtual event, showrunner Emily Andras, along with cast members Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Tim Rozon (Doc Holiday), Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp), Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught), and Varun Saranga (Jeremy Chetri), caught up with each other and also treated fans to a sneak peak of the first episode of Season 4.

You can check out all the games the panelists played, as well as a clip from the first episode of Season 4 in the full panel here:

Those interested in the clip can look toward the end of the video, where the panelists watched along with us (and provided their own commentary) on the shared scene. In it, we see Wynonna trying to find a weapon to arm herself with now that she’s without Peacemaker, the magical weapon (usually in gun form) that can send demons back to Hell.

Once she eventually finds the weapon of her choosing, Wynonna and Sheriff Nedley (Greg Lawson) head to the woods to find the mythical stairs that Doc Holiday and Waverly Earp disappeared through at the end of Season 3. Wynonna makes her way up the stairs, conquering her fear, only to fall back on the ground in our own world. We then cut to see Waverly chained up and screaming someplace else. Where? We don’t know!

One thing we do know, however, is that Season 4 premieres late this Sunday night, and that the late timeframe is because this season will be the first time the show receives a TV-MA rating, meaning there’s content in it that will be unsuitable for children. Andras explained what this new parental guideline will mean for the season.

“We can definitely make it more sexy, more violent. Nedley can drop more F-bombs, which he apparently loves to do,” Andras joked. “Just more of everything, more Earp. I would not say though that the show is more mature — we still are goofy and fun, and everything you love about Earp.”

Season 4 of Wynonna Earp premieres on SYFY July 26 at 10/9c, with its mid-season finale expected to air Aug. 30.
