WIRE Buzz: Weezer drops Bill & Ted 3 music video; Biohackers Netflix series stored in DNA
What would a Bill & Ted movie be without some rockin' music, dudes? Earlier today, Weezer dropped its official video for Face the Music's premiere track: "Beginning of the End (Wyld Stallyns Edit)." In addition to showing off some footage from the movie (we've seen most, if not all, of it from the trailers), the music video also features cameos from the main stars, Keanu Reeves (Ted Logan) and Alex Winter (Bill Preston).
The lyrics of the song naturally mirror the plot, which deals with themes of aging, parenthood, and the end of the world.

Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who wrote the first two installments, return as screenwriters, while Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) directs. Samara Weaving, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Kid Cudi, Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr., and Amy Stoch co-star.
Bill & Ted Face the Music arrives on VOD and in select theaters Friday, Aug. 28. The soundtrack becomes available from 10K Projects the same day.
Science fiction becomes regular old science in a fascinating featurette for Netflix's upcoming Biohackers series. Partnering with leading genetic scientists in Switzerland and Germany, the streamer was able to store one million copies of the show's very first episode in synthetic DNA. The three-minute video is meant to demonstrate just how fast the field of biotechnology is advancing.
"Biology and technology merge together, and this is really exciting," says the show's central star, Luna Wedler ("Mia"). Professor Dr. Robert Grass of the Functional Materials Laboratory at ETH Zurich takes it one step further with: "This is certainly not science fiction!"

Written and directed by Christian Ditter (How to Be Single), Biohackers follows a medical student (played by Wedler), who stumbles upon a conspiracy related to advanced biohacking technology. Jessica Schwarz co-stars as the mysterious and visionary Professor Lorenz.
Biohackers hits Netflix Thursday, Aug. 20.
Writer-director Chino Moya offers a glimpse into a bleak, albeit creepily engaging, dystopian future in the first trailer for Undergods. Marking Moya's feature debut, the film is slated to premiere at the virtual edition of the Fantastia International Film Festival later this month. Set within "a deserted, crumbling, grayish-blue city" (think the deathly and abandoned stillness/decay of Chernobyl), the project is comprised of interweaving stories, whose threads connect across time and space.
Deadline, which first reported on the trailer, writes that the "visually impressive and darkly humorous fantasy" vignettes follow "a series of men whose worlds fall apart after a visit from an unexpected stranger ... the film charts disparate eras and realities, fusing failed 20th Century utopias and 21st Century IKEA nightmares."
If that's the case, then we'll have to make sure all the assembly pieces are present and accounted for when the film finally arrives.
