WATCH: A look back at the hot-sauce-loving aliens of Roswell
On Tuesday, Jan. 15, The CW is taking everyone back to alien country in Roswell, New Mexico. It's a modern reboot based on the '90s series Roswell, as well as the Roswell High novels by Melinda Metz. Believe it or not, the original Roswell debuted 20 years ago on The WB, one of the forerunners of The CW. It fit in pretty well with The WB's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, and even Dawson's Creek. But all of the hot sauce in the world couldn't give this show more than a three-season run.
In our latest video, we're taking an extended look back at Roswell's occasionally convoluted mythology, and its star-making turns for Katherine Heigl, Shiri Appleby, and even Colin Hanks! Appleby's Liz Parker was our window into this strange world, where alien teenagers Max (Jason Behr), Isabel (Heigl), and Michael (Brendan Fehr) lived among us as high schoolers with incredible powers. Future Lost co-star Emilie de Ravin even had a big role as Tess, the fourth alien on the show.
A passionate fanbase helped keep Roswell going for two seasons by mailing network executives boxes of hot sauce, which the aliens craved for some reason. And when The WB finally gave up, UPN kept the show alive for a third and final season. Although it probably wasn't intended as a series finale, the final episode of the third season did offer us some closure. But there were some pretty bizarre tales along the way.
