TV THIS WEEK: Manifest returns, The Outsider premieres, new The Good Place and more

With the new year officially underway, 2020 is bringing some long-awaited premieres and midseason returns after the holiday hiatus. From Stephen King to missing planes, let's dig in.

The big story is the series premiere of HBO's The Outsider, based on the best-selling Stephen King novel. The show kicks off with the investigation around a murder ... and then gets way crazier from there. The second season of NBC's sci-fi mystery Manifest also starts this week, after asking all kinds of wild questions in its Season 1 finale. Digging a bit deeper, The Good Place is also back from its holiday break, with the fate of all of humanity still hanging in the balance.

This week also brings a new episode of Doctor Who, which ramped up its new season with a bang on New Year's Day. There's also a new Emergence, a new Vikings, and a whole lot more.

SEASON PREMIERE: As the Stone family reels in the aftermath of a devastating shooting, they're hit with their most foreboding Calling yet, sending Ben on a mission to locate two Flight 828 passengers who have mysteriously gone missing. Grace grapples with her new pregnancy, the Major attempts to tighten her grip on the unwitting Saanvi, all while the clock on the lives of the 828ers continues to tick towards zero.

The group works to negotiate an afterlife plan with Shawn and the judge.

A Time Lord travels through the universe and time.

SERIES PREMIERE: When the body of an 11-year-old boy is found in the Georgia woods, detective Ralph Anderson launches an investigation into the gruesome murder; eyewitnesses and physical evidence point to local teacher and baseball coach Terry Maitland.

Emergence (ABC), Tuesday 10PM - "15 Years"

After months of dead ends, the Evans family receives information that could lead them to Piper. While Jo and Brooks follow this new lead, Ed helps Mia as she tries to send Piper a message. Meanwhile, Alex and Chris stumble upon a mysterious shipment in the harbor.

WEDNESDAY

Paranormal Caught on Camera (Travel), Wednesday 9PM - "Arkansas Bigfoot Stalks a Father and Son and More"

A hike turns terrifying when a father and son are stalked by a mysterious creature; bone-chilling shrieks strike fear into residents of a Colombian town; and U.S. Navy pilots are stumped when their radar locks in on unidentified aircraft.

Vikings (History), Wednesday 10PM - "Death and the Serpent"

Bjorn is forced to act quickly in the aftermath of the election for the King of all Norway. The bandits attack Lagertha's village again, confident of victory. But when the defense boils down to single combat with Lagertha, victory for the bandits looks less certain. Back in Kattegat, haunted and paranoid, Hvitserk continues to unravel.
