TV THIS WEEK: 'Finch' hits Apple TV, new 'Chucky' and 'Day of the Dead,' 'La Brea,' 'Doctor Who' & more
This week has killer dolls, killer sink holes, killer twists — and Tom Hanks hanging with a robot.
As the back half of the World Series plays out this week, there's still plenty of sci-fi and genre programming for non-baseball fans on the dial — including some great horror fare to ring in the fall season for November.
The big movie release on streaming this week lands on Apple TV+, as the buzzy sci-fi film Finch — starring Tom Hanks as a man on a post-apocalyptic road trip with his dog and robot — becomes available this weekend. Apple has not been shy about making big swings with A-list stars, and they don't get much bigger than Hanks.
On the more traditional TV side, SYFY and USA have a new episode of the horror hit Chucky, while SYFY has a new episode of Day of the Dead. NBC has the latest installment of it's sci-fi mystery thriller La Brea, and BBC America has a new episode of Doctor Who, as Jodie Whittaker's Doctor continues on with the big new "Flux" storyline. HBO Max has a new episode of Doom Patrol ahead of next week's season finale.
The CW has plenty of new superhero shows filling out its schedule, with new Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Stargirl and Batwoman. For those keeping count, The Flash returns later in the month with a big kickoff event. If you're jonesing for more zombies after Day of the Dead, AMC has new episodes of Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond to finish out the weekend.
Queue up the full rundown below, as we've broken down all the sci-fi, fantasy and horror to save you the dive through the TV listings.
