Merlin's beard! Tokyo Olympic athletes on their favorite 'Harry Potter' movies and characters
It only makes sense that an Olympian's favorite Harry Potter movie would be Goblet of Fire. That's the one about magical Olympics: The Triwizard Tournament. Ahead of the Muggle Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo next month, SYFY caught up with several competing athletes to learn about their favorite Potter films and characters.
Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) are obvious crowd-pleasers, but prepare yourself: Someone said their favorite Wizarding World character is the deranged Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter). *Molly Weasley wants to know your location.*
"I've had to put a lot of thought into this over the years because they're all so good. Like, how could you pick a favorite Harry Potter movie?" U.S. swimmer McKenzie Coan told us. "But Goblet of Fire I love so much because of the Triwizard Tournament. I love it because it has that competitive edge to the movie, so I think that just goes back to my competitiveness, in a nutshell, to be honest."
Spoken like a true Olympian! We hope you take home the Triwizard Cup, er, we mean gold medal, McKenzie!
These athletes are already open to making Quidditch an Olympic sport. Let's add some dragons, merpeople, and Blast-Ended Skrewts into the mix while we're at it! Just make sure Barty Crouch Jr. doesn't pretend to be Mad-Eye Moody and turn the cup into a Portkey leading to Voldemort. Been there, done that.
The Tokyo Olympics kick off on Friday, July 23, and run through Sunday, Aug. 8. You can catch all the action around the clock exclusively on NBC. All eight Harry Potter films are currently available to stream on Peacock.
SYFY, NBC, and Peacock are properties of NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.
