Hulu is going where no one has gone before — sort of — in our first look at Season 3 of The Orville (now subtitled New Horizons). In addition to its move to the world of streaming after two seasons on Fox, the Emmy-nominated show has also postponed its premiere date by three months from March 10 to June 2.

The sneak peek throws us into the midst of a thrilling dogfight in the middle of outer space with an awesome soundtrack that one could favorably compare to John Williams' work on the Star Wars prequels, or else Michael Giacchino's compositions for the rebooted Star Trek film franchise. The USS Orville is under attack and on the verge of total destruction! To make matters worse, the ship's Science and Engineering Officer, Isaac (Mark Jackson), has gone rogue.

It's heavy on the drama and surprisingly bereft of the show's usual comedic tone.

Series creator and cast member Seth McFarlane (Captain Ed Mercer) thanked fans for their patience on Twitter Friday, writing: "As occasionally happens, our show has been repositioned amidst the ever-changing television schedule landscape, which means that the wait will be a bit longer ... We've always promised you a television experience that will make it worth the wait, and we're not wavering on that. We understand that the frustration you're feeling over more delays, so we want to give you a little taste of what's to come. Here's a sneak peek at the first few minutes of our season opener, and our new main title!"

“I believe the fans of the show that are coming to us from Fox will be deeply excited and satiated. I also think for new fans that maybe didn’t experience it, it will feel new to them,” Jordan Helman, head of original scripted content at Hulu, told Deadline last summer.

The show's supporting cast is comprised of Adrianne Palicki (Commander Kelly Grayson), Penny Johnson Jerald (Doctor Claire Finn), Scott Grimes (Lieutenant Gordon Malloy), Peter Macon (Lieutenant Commander Bortus), J. Lee (Lieutenant Commander John LaMarr), Chad L. Coleman (Klyden), Jessica Szohr (Lieutenant Talla Keyali), and Anne Winters (Charly Burke).

MacFarlane serves as an executive producer with Brannon Braga, David A. Goodman, Jon Cassar, Jason Clark, and Howard Griffith.

The Orville: New Horizons lands on Hulu Thursday, June 2. Season 3 will feature one of the final performance of late comic, Norm MacDonald.
