Clark is torn between family and duty in first trailer for 'Superman & Lois' Season 2

Superman's family needs him, but the world needs him too.

Superman And Lois

The first season of The CW's superhero series Superman & Lois ended in victory, as Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and his wife Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) managed to overcome a battle against his Kryptonian half-brother. But as is always the case with Superman, the war is never over, even when the latest battle has been won.

In the first trailer for the show's second season, arriving next month, we see what happens when Superman faces a whole new set of challenges, including his own apparently-waning powers. As the show's second season dawns, the biggest problem for the Kent family is apparently the home front, as Lois tells her husband that something's been wrong "for months," and she considers him to blame. As for what's causing the rift, it could have something to do with the Kent sons getting into some teenage trouble while their dad's off fighting evil, or it could have more to do with the arrival of Natalie, Lois' alternate universe daughter with John Henry Irons, at the end of Season 1.

Lois swears that's not the case, though, so Clark will have to get in touch with his wife's concerns while also struggling with the United States Department of Defense in the wake of his refusal to swear allegiance to the U.S. Then, of course, there are the usual superhero problems, including some issues with a submerged submarine, and oh yeah, there's a chance that Clark is actually losing his powers.

Check out the trailer below:

Superman & Lois began life as a pilot episode after Hoechlin's version of Clark Kent won viewers' hearts on Supergirl, but the COVID-19 pandemic put a delay in production on the first season, and it was more than a year between the pilot and the debut of Season 1 in February of this year. Once things got started, though, they didn't really slow down, and production on Season 2 has been underway for a little while now. The show threaded the needle of small town teenage family drama (a staple of The CW) and superhero action.

That means Season 2 will arrive less than a year after Season 1 premiered, debuting on The CW January 11.
