Amazon's 'The Expanse' kicks off cosmic struggle in full trailer for sixth and final season
The Expanse Season 6 premieres on Amazon Prime Video Friday, Dec. 10.
The full trailer for the sixth and final season of The Expanse drops viewers into the middle of a war being fought against the backdrop of our beloved solar system. After all, it's the only one we've got. Oh, and there's an alien in there too!
Prime Video teases the final season will see Marco Inaros and his Free Navy continuing a barrage of asteroid attacks on Earth and Mars. With the war starting to pull the crew of the Rocinante apart, Chrisjen Avasarala opts to send former Martian Marine Bobbie Draper on a secret mission that could turn the tide for the Solar System. There's also a story playing out in the Belt, with Drummer and on the run for betraying Marco. Plus, mysteriously, Amazon promises: on a distant planet beyond the Rings, a new power begins to rise.
Appearing virtually at New York Comic Con last month, showrunner and executive producer Naren Shankar teased an "intensity" to these last six episodes, which will start to premiere on Prime Video next month. "Every episode feels as intense as it can possibly be," he said. "The compression is there, you never feel like you're letting your foot off the gas pedal, so by the time you get to the end, it's cathartic."

Steven Strait, Dominique Tipper, Wes Chatham, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Cara Gee, Frankie Adams, Keon Alexander, Nadine Nicole, and Jasai Chase Owens co-star.
"You need an end point that's very specific," Strait also remarked at NYCC. "You have to be aiming for something very, very specific to get there. So, every beat is justified. These small moments that we have in those early seasons come back in the later seasons. The plan is very meticulously plotted all the way through. So, you never know what could happen and that's far beyond our pay-grade, but it is bittersweet. This has been the joy of my adult life, to be able to work on this show."
Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Sharon Hall, Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck, and Dan Nowak serve as executive producers alongside Shankar. The series itself is based on the sci-fi novels written by the creative duo of Abraham and Franck, who go under the joint pen name of James S. A. Corey.
The Expanse Season 6 premieres on Amazon Prime Video Friday, Dec. 10. Since this last outing is only six episodes long, Amazon will roll out each new chapter on a weekly basis, with the 65-miunute series finale dropping on Jan. 14, 2022.
“I’ve probably seen the last episode like 150 times," Shankar revealed at NYCC. "It chokes me up when I see the end of it ... Even when we were looking at a visual effects review of Episode 6, the people who have been working on it, they were cheering ... I think that tells you something about where we're going and I get misty-eyed when we get to the end."
