'The Boys' meets 'Looney Tunes' in first bloody, slapstick clip from 'Diabolical' animated spinoff
The Boys Presents: Diabolical arrives on on Prime Video Friday, March 4.
We've still got five months until The Boys returns to Prime Video for its third season premiere over the summer. Luckily, fans won't have to wait that long to get their Compound V fix because Amazon just announced an early March debut for The Boys Presents: Diabolical. You know, that eight-episode animated anthology set within the no holds barred world of the hit TV show?
The announcement also came packaged with a first look clip that blends the gory visuals of the beloved television program with the light slapstick humor of Looney Tunes for a Roger Rabbit-y bite. Most likely a nod to the first season — in which Billy Butcher weaponized a newly-born "Supe" — the video you're about to watch features a toddler absolutely destroying a squad of hulking Vought soldiers with her laser vision. All while a panicked scientist attempts to secure the dangerous child. Longtime fans of the Animaniacs might find themselves reminded of the old "Buttons and Mindy" segments.
Check it out below:
Clocking in at 12-14 minutes a piece, each episode will sport a different animation and comedy style from preeminent creators like Garth Ennis (co-creator of The Boys comic with Darick Robertson), Eliot Glazer and Ilana Glazer (co-creators of Broad City), Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (executive producers of The Boys), Simon Racioppa (Invincible), Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty) and Ben Bayouth (Blark and Son), Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Aisha Tyler (Archer).
"We gathered together some incredible creators and we gave them one rule… just kidding, there's no rules," Eric Kripke, showrunner on the mother ship series, said when the project was first announced back in December. "They blew the doors off it, delivering eight completely unexpected, funny, shocking, gory, moist, emotional episodes. You think The Boys is nuts? Wait 'till you see this."
Kripke is also an executive producer on Diabolical with Simon Racioppa, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr, Loreli Alanís, Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, and Ben Kalina.
Another spinoff centered around a university for superheroes is coming down the Vought pipeline as well.
All eight episodes of The Boys Presents: Diabolical arrive on on Prime Video Friday, March 4. The first three installments of The Boys Season 3 will premiere on the subscription streaming service Friday, June 3 (watch the teaser for that by clicking here).
