The Batman's marketing goes cheesy with 'Crazy Calzony' pizza special - complete with Riddler riddle
Fighting crime in Gotham makes a person hungrier than Matter-Eater Lad waiting for his Wendy's order.
What pairs well with a gritty superhero noir blockbuster? The answer is quite simple: a Little Caesars "Crazy Calzony" sort of shaped like the Bat-Signal and containing nearly 3,000 calories. To celebrate the impending release of Matt Reeves' The Batman in early March, the internationally recognized pizza chain has joined forces with the good marketing folks over at Warner Bros.
It's not exactly the team-up we expected from this grim dark detective tale, but it's certainly the one we need in a time like this. Didn't Commissioner Gordon say something like that once?
For those of you with a Dark Knight-sized appetite — there's no denying that taking on Gotham City crime night-after-night makes a person hungrier than Matter-Eater Lad waiting for his Wendy's order — the $7.99 Calzony comes in two iterations (cheese and pepperoni), either of which can be made part of several different "Meal Deal" options.
"Anyone can now bring superhero vibes to pizza night by trying the new The Batman Calzony," Jeff Klein, Chief Marketing Officer at Little Caesars, said in a statement. "It's the most delicious part of our partnership with the upcoming film The Batman."
In addition to the Dark Knight-inspired amalgam of cheese, dough, cured meat, and garlic white sauce (all joking aside, it actually sounds and looks quite yummy), the two companies are also holding a limited sweepstakes that challenges fans in the U.S. to solve one of the Riddler's sinister brain teasers. Starting today, customers will receive QR codes with the purchase of specially-marked boxes. The grand prize is a trip for two to the red carpet premiere of the film in Los Angeles next month.
Runner-up winners can nab hometown screenings for themselves and guests, prop replicas, signed posters, Fandango promo codes, and Little Caesars swag.
Directed and co-written by Reeves, That Batman is set during the early days of Bruce Wayne's vigilante career. Robert Pattinson plays the living embodiment of vengeance, leading an ensemble cast featuring the talents of Zoë Kravitz (Catwoman), Paul Dano (Riddler), Colin Farrell (Penguin), John Turturro (Carmine Falcone), Peter Sarsgaard (Gotham DA, Gil Colson), Jayme Lawson (Gotham mayoral hopeful Bella Reál), Rupert Penry-Jones (current Gotham major Don Mitchell Jr.), and Andy Serkis (Bruce's loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth).
Clocking in at nearly three hours long, The Batman arrives in U.S. theaters everywhere Friday, March 4.
Click here to listen to Michael Giacchino's official theme music, which fans are going crazy for. During an interview with SYFY WIRE in 2019, the prolific composer (known for high-profile collaborations with J.J. Abrams, Colin Trevorrow, and Marvel Studios) said he was looking forward to working with Reeves in order "to come up with a unique and different idea of what this character can be."
"We've had different generations over the years, and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them," Giacchino added. "It'll be just fun to kind of do our version of it and to have a chance to say how we feel about that and how we feel about what he is — what he means to us as filmmakers. That’s what I'm looking forward to most of all."
