‘Jedi Mind Trick’ is a boozy drink in Star Wars Galaxy, too, and here’s how Jawas get in on the action

Please drink responsibly! The galaxy of Star Wars may seem like a very lawless place at times, but you can rest assured that the aliens (and alien humanoids) of George Lucas' iconic sci-fi universe took the time to implement underage liquor laws. Don't believe us? Fine, we'll prove it to you!

In Black Spire, Delilah S. Dawson's prose novel that teaches readers about Batuu (the planetoid setting for the Galaxy's Edge theme park at Disneyland and Disney World), we learn that on Tatooine, minors can't simply drink booze at will. That's right. Despite a seedy underworld run by the Hutt family and rampant crime at the Mos Eisley spaceport, adults are still looking out for the welfare of children. To get around this, the youngsters of Tatooine didn't get fake IDs, but dressed up as Jawas in order to get totally sloshed. Such a sneaky tactic is revealed during an inner monologue within the mind of Zade Kalliday, a cocksure smuggler who grew up on the same planet as Luke Skywalker and was raised by a drunken mother and stepfather.

"He'd sneaked into the seediest establishments possible before he was twelve, posing as a Jawa to buy the cheapest booze available," the book explains. "Half the time, it would work, and he'd get sauced and shout 'Utinni!' all night to keep up the charade. The other half of the time, he'd get kicked outside in the dirt in his stolen brown robes, seething with rage, swearing that he would group up and show them."

As you probably already know, Jawas are those small, hooded creatures with glowing, lamp-like eyes that sold R2-D2 and C-3PO to Luke and Uncle Owen in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. They travel around the dunes of Tatooine in massive vehicles known as sandcrawlers, and we're not entirely sure how they feel about their culture being appropriated by booze-happy kids.

Another alcohol-related tidbit we gleaned from Black Spire is the fact that there's a drink in the galaxy called a "Jedi Mind Trick." Dawson never explains what goes into this cocktail, but it does seem to make the drinker quite tipsy and confident. As such, we surmise that like an actual Jedi Mind Trick, the drink helps temporarily wipe one's mind and make them more susceptible to suggestion.

The Jedi Mind Trick can be purchased from Oga's Cantina at the two theme parks for $15 a pop. On Earth (since the ingredients may very well be vastly different on Batuu), the concoction is made with a cosmic combination of Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit and Rose Vodka, John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum, Bols Blue Curaçao, White Grape Juice, Lime Juice, and Grapefruit Bitters.
