Star Trek: Discovery bringing back Georgiou and Klingon hair
If you just can't wait for the next episode of Star Trek: Discovery, worry not — Episode 3 of Season 2 is coming this Thursday, and it's bringing some familiar friends along for the ride. Some of them may even look a little ... hairier.
Titled "Point of Light," the episode will bring back former series regular Shazad Latif (Ash Tyler), as well as recurring favorite Mary Chieffo (L'Rell). Not only that, but we're gonna get our first sampling of (former) Emperor Georgiou in this new season, as Michelle Yeoh will also be featured. Still not enough? Mia Kershner will appear once again as Amanda Grayson, mother to the most definitely not romantically involved Spock (Ethan Peck) and Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). This time, Amanda will actually be onboard the USS Discovery itself; here's hoping that she stays away from that spore drive.
Photos from the episode reveal Georgiou in her new role as an operative of Section 31, alongside the character of Leland (Alan Van Sprang), who recruited her last year in a scene deleted from the season finale. You can see Georgiou and Leland together here:
You can tell they are all set to go against the Prime Directive (aka General Order One) and do whatever is necessary because of all the black leather. Section 31 loves their leather.
The former Emperor can also be seen in a different outfit here, which manages to make her appear even more formidable:
If that outfit looks a little Klingon-inspired (with the surrounding architecture helping out), it's probably because they are Qo'nos-bound; this is probably where L'Rell (now High Chancellor) and Ash Tyler (High Drama Magnet) come into the mix. Aside from seeing how these two are getting along (swimmingly, we'd guess, except not), maybe the biggest takeaway from the photo of them (seen at the top of this page) is that L'Rell has hair!
That's right — she may be the only Klingon to get it for the moment, but the formerly hairless L'Rell is hairless no longer. Many a fan complained about the look of the Klingons last year, so perhaps L'Rell's hair will function as an olive branch of some sort. L'Rell herself is a fantastic character, so there's also that. As for Tyler? We honestly have no idea what to expect.
As they did with the previous episode, the Instagram page for Star Trek: Discovery's international distribution on Netflix has a trailer for the new episode, which can be seen below:
L'Rell, Tyler, Amanda, Georgiou, Section 31, that weird ghost-person that Tilly is seeing, L'Rell's hair, more of the red signal mystery, MTV's Dan Cortese ... this episode of Discovery looks like it has everything.
Star Trek: Discovery goes to black alert this Thursday at 8:30, exclusively (Stateside) on CBS All Access.
