Simu Liu in the dark about Shang-Chi 2, blames Holland and Ruffalo
He may not know Shang-Chi's future, but he sure can dance.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu has revealed that alas, he doesn’t know much about any upcoming Shang-Chi sequels or appearances in other Marvel movies. In fact, the actor is pretty much kept in the dark about most MCU plans — and joked that you can blame Spider-Man and Hulk for that.
During a fun appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (below) where Liu showed off some of his choice hip-hop dance moves and challenged the host to a game of "Beat Saber," the actor was asked if there’s a sequel to Shang-Chi in the works, and if so, what he knows about it. Liu, who will host Saturday Night Live this weekend on NBC, let Fallon know that “there may have been a day and age where [Marvel] brought the actors in” and would fill them in on plans for future films. But sadly, that’s no longer the case.
“I just feel like there were certain things that ruined it for all of us,” he said, adding: “I don’t want to single anyone out, but shout out to [Tom] Holland, shout out to [Mark] Ruffalo. They really just mucked it up for the rest of us.”
Liu is jokingly referring to the two MCU stars that have cultivated reputations for spoiling upcoming Marvel movies. But bottom line? “No, we have no idea,” said Liu. Though, considering the film beat out Black Widow as the highest-grossing domestic release of 2021, the odds that we’ll see a Shang-Chi 2 are pretty good.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is streaming on Disney+. Liu will host Saturday Night Live on Nov. 20 with musical guest Saweetie.
