SDCC 2019: It Came From the '90s panel

Did you survive the '90s? If you made it through butterfly clips, frosted tips and VHS tapes you rented from Blockbuster and had to be kind and rewind, you're going to relate to this rad panel.

Dave Holmes hosted a totally cool panel where Jason Mewes, Joan Ray, Maude Garrett, Orlando Jones, Milana Vayntrub, Eliza Skinner, and Ian Ziering went back to the decade that's getting a major revival right now.

Everyone on the panel (with the exception of Jonah Ray, who made up for it by listening to Soundgarden on the way to the con) went for a '90s look, from Nirvana-esque grunge to Cher Horowitz glam, but no one can pull off a Pac-Man suit like Orlando Jones. Nobody.

So who would Jones, currently Mr. Nancy on American Gods, which explains the awesome spider hair, have played on The X-Files? Jones would have been a wedding planner. Why would anyone need a wedding planner on a show about the FBI investigating aliens? For the entire run of the show, Jones was impatiently waiting for Mulder and Scully to just get married already. Eliza Skinner would also play a wedding planner on Xena: Warrior Princess. Xena and Gabrielle apparently needed one, too.

Jason Mewes knew exactly who he'd play on Saved By the Bell: Screech's cousin who comes in from New Jersey. He thought it could possibly explain a lot about Screech's backstory. Why is it always New Jersey?

The '90s also meant dial-up internet that we thought was the fastest we could get at the time. Remember your screen name? Your most clever away messages that are thankfully not Facebook statues that will haunt you forever and ever? Yeah, that had to be discussed because AIM was life before social media ever existed.

What about '90s gaming? The panelists talked everything from pixelated video games to epic D&D marathons and an X-Men card game that actually existed at one point. Does anyone remember Fireball Island? Alright, probably not. But everyone remembered Pogs, which led to a hot debate between Ray and Jones about whether or not they played for keeps. Kind of surprising how no one's Pokemon brought all the geeks to the yard.
